How much would be willing to give for a strings set?
# 1
i'd only give about 5 or 6 euros. as long as i don't record things or stuff where the sound has to be really good i won't buy anything expensive.

i'm using ernie ball 8-38 because i got 11 packages for 30 euro ( ebay :D ) and before i used ernie ball 9-42 (ebay maybe 50-60 euro, 12 packages)
didn't find any better strings than ernie ball yet.

ernie balls are pretty nice but I like to use the lightest Dean Markleys, especially the first three strings. They run for about 7 USD.

the only string you should ever spend more then 6 or 7 bucks on should be elixers. i use ernie ball 9-42's on almost everything, but for the band im in we play in a dropped "c" tuning. for that, on a jackson king v I use the elixers, but luckily since i know a guy at the music store, he lets me open up packs and take the string i want. i take the first 4 from a heavy gage set (the 52,42,32,26) and the last two i take from a medium set (the 11, and an 18). some may find this strange, but i like it as far as maintaining tension on the bottom end, as well as some vicious crunch, and it still allows my top strings to be a bit quicker for soloing. i find the thicker strings on the bottom also give great midrange and bass for clean, non-distorted interludes. this costs me about 13 bucks, i dont always do it though, just when i am recording, have an important show (not that the crowd notices), or when i have a few bucks to spend. by the way, elixers last twice as long as normal strings, but feel kinda slick due to the polyweb coating.

have you read my post on another thread? and seen the pic? :p
maybe they last twice as long, but when they've been played as long as i play "normal" strings the coating starts to well unwind (*german* is this the right word?)... well here's the pic again: ww.geocities.com/petztep/string.jpg

I use Ernie Balls too for electric, but for my acoustic I like the D'Adderio EXPs. They're around $12.00, but they last long. I played the set that came with the guitar for more than 6 months before they started to noticably lose their tone, and they aren't slick like the Elixers. I've also never had a problem with them unwinding.

Thanks guys for your replies...
Do someone here have ever tried the elixir strings...How much do u have to pay in euro for an elixir strings set?
They seem to have a very long life but some people said that the tone is a little metalic...
Even if I don't use d'addario strings I think it still being the leader on market strings despite there are strong challengers like Ernie Ball, Dean Markley or GHS...( I speak about electric guitar strings)

by my calculation (1.4 US Dollar = 1 Euro) they would be about 10 or 11 euros. probably about 15 euros for the premuim elizers. I looked at that pic, and i can honestly say i've never seen a string unwind like that. i have used elixers for years, and even still have a set on a randy rhoades guitar that has been there for almost two years now, and they are still in great shape. you must be getting dirt or something in between the windings. i dunno. yes, in my opinion they are a bit bright at first, but that's because they take longer to break in. it just maintains that new string sound longer, once that goes away then they last for friggin ever!!!!!
