as a new member to this site, i wanted to catch some opinions from the guitar community as to the age old question all metal-heads ponder. which is better---------- "Jackoff's" or "Ibeenhad's"

Just in case anyone cares about my opinion, i have 3 jacksons, but it is not behind me to play ibanez 7-strings!!!!

guitars:
2000 Jackson KV-4
1997 Jackson PS-6T (kelly style)
1999 Jackson PS-3T (randy rhoades V)
1989 Charvel Avenger (randy rhoades V)

basses:
Ibanez BTB Boutique 5-string
Yamaha John Myung 5-string
Fender Jazz (MIM) 5-string

amps:
guitar-Line 6 flextone III
bass-Hartke 3500
Hartke 410xl (4x10)
Carvin 18"

Neither. Cort. Or Fernandez, or PRS, or Schecter (they're actually made by Cort, so is Ibanez). Betwen the two I would say Ibanez. Well, Jackson is owned by Fender, so that might count for something.

I also really like Cort Guitars...for the price you pay, the guitars are awesome.
You can get an awesome cort for a price that is much cheaper than the equivolent Jackson/Ibanez.
Of the two Jackson/Ibanez I actually prefer Jackson, though the Ibanez Prestige range rocks.

Well I own a Jackson Performer which is pretty low end, but I've changed the pickups and I think its a kick ass guitar, It could easily be mistaken for a Ā£600 guitar. (I haggled down to Ā£300 when I bought it)

I much rather prefer Jackson to Ibanez, In my opinion Ibanez are way too over rated. Generally if someone I know decides they want to start playing the guitar they say to me "Hey Jamie, i'm gonna get this Ibanez RG series guitar". So I ask them what it is about the guitar that makes them want to buy it and they say "I dunno, it's Ibanez". I think Ibanez are like the designer clothes of the guitar world :)

That said I only own 1 guitar and have only played a handful, but for Ā£300 I think my Jackson plays better than any Ā£300 Ibanez would.

i only got an ibanez rg370 and in my opinion it's a very good one. a friend of mine got a JEM and the says my rg is not far away from it although it costs only 400 euro ( his jem was 1300 euro).
but i think i got to try a jackson before saying they arent as good as ibanez ;)

ps: i didn't buy it because it had ibanez written on it :-P

I have a Jackson of some species although I don't know exactly what. I got it secondhand for 400 quid (I know when to break my principles - it's a truly amazing guitar) and new it would cost 700. A friend of mine has a Ā£900+ Ibanez prestige and I actually hated it. It seemed dull and sludgy in comparison to the sweet action and neck of my technically inferior Jackson. My floyd rose goes deeper, my pickups are better EMGHZ or whatever they are, the action is lower. Possibly because he keeps his guitar in poor condition - strings all gunked up and so on. Another friend has a Ā£400 RG470 which he blazes on and he favours my guitar with a princely nod. I think the player helps a lot, but Jackson - for what I've played - beat Ibanez. Though I want an Ibanez because they're so damn sexy. If ever I had to make love to a guitar, Ibanez would be the way to go.
Ibanez are idolized mainly, I think, because the mighty Vai and Satch endorse them. The thinking goes that if Steve Vai likes Ibanez, everyone should. But then Steve Vai would be godlike on a Ā£40 strat ripoff so it doesn't matter.
Mortem embrassite, smilies.

I go for Jackson.
For the same price range , usualy the Jackson beats the Ibanez in terms of quality (tone & playability).

I've heard good things about Jackson but Ive never played one. I don't like Ibanez though. They make me feel uncomfortable whenever I play them. I'd go with an ESP rather than any of those.

Well, I don't really care about price all that much.

I'm after playability.

As far as I'm concerned.. Jackson has produced one guitar in the last 20 years that I like (its fantastic of course).

Ibanez on the other hand, has made the...

Ghostrider (my favorite)
Artist
FGM (Frank Gambale)

And of course the Universe, which although isn't exactly my favorite.. its one of the best 7 string guitars you can buy.

Of course, all the RG/S series type models aside.. I'm putting my money on Ibanez because of the Artist, and later the awesome (but rare, and not made anymore) Ghostrider.

I got a Jackson DXMG Dingy a few weeks ago, and it's awesome. I just got a Line6 Flextone III XL amp a week ago, they rock!

I consider the Jackson I got a bargain, since it list @ $900 and I got it for $500.

Both brands have a tremendous amount of crappy, overpriced guitars; yet, they do also have some very good, also overpriced ones. It all depends on what model you get.

I have owned both, but I will never buy a Jackson or Ibanez guitar again. Both of these brands have survived so far solely based on the name recognition they built years ago.

What brand I would suggest you wonder?

Carvin.

I own an RG570dx wich I picked up dirt cheap and it still had the plastic on the back plates it was so new, anyway I will be buried with this guitar and will bury anyone who attempts to touch it or seems like they want to touch it which is everyone whos seen it.

Back to the question, I like ibanez very much so

I'd always go for a jackson, even though alot of people complain about them. The high end, they are really good

The only bit of Ibanez kit I have ever used that I like was a TSDX9 however I guess it is just a matter of taste !

I have a Jackson DKMG in the post from an eBay auction, I have not played one before so Im kina excited ! It is in need of some work however I figure that if I like it I'll do it up and if not well it can go back on ebay !
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

It depends.

Old jacksons were the ****. The sl1 and sl2 were the top metal guitars. Now that fender owns them, all they are is cheap imported crap. I've got a DR7 that was made in indonesia I think. It gets the job done but its nothing special. The SL2 is a work of art. I've also got an Ibanez SZ320 which is a PRS ripoff but its still a very solid guitar for the price. And ibanez actually knows how to set a neck unlike gibson. The set neck on my SZ isnt far from a neck through feel.

I just ordered an SZ320 as my 2nd guitar. I have a limited build Gibson "WRC" (Wayne Charvel Design) from '87. I love my Gibby "Strat"..sounds wierd doesn't it?

I picked up an SZ320 late last week and love it so far. It's got ridiculous sustain.

I got an Ibanez Jem with Dimarzio Breed pickups.... easily the best guitar I have played (ranks on par with my 7 string EBMM Petrucci sig). I've played some damn fine Jackson guitars too. I would say it comes down to the particular model and personal taste. For me... it has to be Ibanez Jem's
