Is this true?¿
To get a minor interval you only have to lower the imperfect major intervals 1/2 a step? (eg: 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th)

So that Cmaj 3 lowered 1/2 step is C min 3rd interval?

If you lower the perfect intervals 1/2 a step you get a diminished interval?

If so are the lowered intervals still in the same key as the root? Ex: the lowered C maj. 6th is now a C min. 6th?

This is my take on intervals. I'm a visual chart kind of guy, so I wrote this out for myself. Hope it helps. First I'll start with a definition...

Intervals - An interval is defined as the musical distance between two given notes. Notice that I did not name some of the intervals. This is because these intervals are very rarely, if ever, used.

|------------|-----------------------------------|------------|-----------------------|
| Half Steps | Interval Name | Shorthand | Example |
|------------|-----------------------------------|------------|-----------------------|
| 0 | Unison | ---------- | C to C (same octave) |
| 1 | Minor Second | m2 | C to C# |
| 2 | Major Second | M2 | C to D |
| 3 | Minor Third | m3 | C to D# |
| 4 | Major Third | M3 | C to E |
| 5 | Perfect Fourth | P4 | C to F |
| 6 | Augmented Fourth/Diminished Fifth | +4/?5 | C to F# |
| 7 | Perfect Fifth | P5 | C to G |
| 8 | Minor Sixth | m6 | C to G# |
| 9 | Major Sixth | M6 | C to A |
| 10 | Minor Seventh | m7 | C to A# |
| 11 | Major Seventh | M7 | C to B |
| 12 | Octave | 8va | C to C (up an octave) |
| 13 | Minor Ninth | m9 | C to C# (8va) |
| 14 | Major Ninth | M9 | C to D (8va) |
| 15 | Minor Tenth | m10 | C to D# (8va) |
| 16 | Major Tenth | M10 | C to E (8va) |
| 17 | Eleventh | 11 | C to F (8va) |
| 18 | Augmented Eleventh | #11 or +11 | C to F# (8va) |
| 19 | --------------------------------- | ---------- | C to G (8va) |
| 20 | Minor Thirteenth | m13 | C to G# (8va) |
| 21 | Major Thirteenth | M13 | C to A (8va) |
| 22 | --------------------------------- | ---------- | C to A# (8va) |
| 23 | --------------------------------- | ---------- | C to B (8va) |
|------------|-----------------------------------|------------|-----------------------|

Yeah thats right. If you lower an imperfect interval you get a minor interval. Also if you lower an imperfect interval by a tone then you get dimished. If you raise it a semitone then you get an augmented interval.

If you lower a perfect interval you get diminished, if you raise it you get augmented again.

Finally, my tricks take a good use. My tricks have a lesson on intervals (try modes lesson 1 and 2 - or just click the tutorial).

Hopefully it will help. Email if it don't ok? Good luck.
