I currenlty listen to stuff like : dream theater, Carcass, Childern of bodom, symphony x, in flames, arch enemy, at the gates, blind guardian, Death, Nile, machine head, opeth , bands in that vein. Then your basic 80's hair metal. And some newer stuff ie: shadows fall, lamb of god

Havent heard of, bathory or Scissorfight. I'll have to give them a listen.

Sorry im a noob, im not too good with the labels they have for music. What bands would be considered medieval music? i'd like to check it out.
Thanks

omg.

well u should if u like bands in these genres: black/death/trash/speed...etcc

bathory were [i should say is cus its basically one guy] one of the very first black metal bands, anyone else with raspy vocals sounds like him.

sodom are a very very good german i think theyd fall under trash. kreator.

venom? at least
mayhem?.... early as well

these are all like 80s bands.
death are amazing, theres soo many good norwegian metal bands who in my oppinion are the best at this sort of brutal metal, its the landscape and folk music.

well medieval musci is medieval, gregorian chant is on of the earliest forms of music [i think] i like the instruments, i dunno of any actual medieval bands that existed in the dark ages. u can find some stuff if u look well.
but u should check out this band who use medieval type sounds they sing madra style too. 'miranda sex garden'

Scissorfight had a few mp3s up on their site, but right now I can ony find Jaggernaut.

Stonerrock.com has a few low quality mp3s here, but they really are pretty rough.

You'll find they span hard rock and metal quite easily. They never get really technical, but they have very solid riff writing, a great sense of how to groove and a lot of their stuff (especially the older material like Mud and Guts and The Gibbetted Captain Kidd) is INCREDIBLY heavy.

Lyrically, they're inclined to spin tales of all things back woods, booze fueled, survivalistic, and/or involving ass kickings.

i can name hundreds mroe if you want. but those are good, i tried to some lesser known ones, though some are very big you've probably heard of some of them
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

DEVOLVED. They have sound a bit like early Fear Factory but harder, faster and unrelenting. The vocals are bit like Jens Kidman's from Meshuggah. The drummer seems to steal the show though, with excellent double kick. In Distorted, the most popular song, he keeps up constant double kick for a minute straight, 2:00 onwards. Listen to Progress too. There is brilliant vocals around 1:30-2:05. Give Fallen Cities and Emergence a listen too.
Some samples at http://www.devolved.net but you should be able to find all their songs in KaZaA, with a bit of patience.

MESHUGGAH. Masters of death metal with great thrashy vocals. They use uncommon and abstract time signatures though, which probably groups them into math metal. A few of my favourite songs are New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Future Breed Machine, Sane and Humiliative.

BLOOD DUSTER. Best described as Porn Groove Death Metal. Catcy riffs, some of the best metal vocals around and very amusing lyrics and song titles like 'iloveitwhenjoepesciswears', 'don'tcallmehomeboyyac*nt', 'Knee deep in menstral blood' and 'Givin' stiff to the stiff'. I suggest to listen to Metal As F*ck, Pornstorestiffi, Northcote (features Skitz, Damaged's drummer) and The Corpse Song.

DAMAGED. One of my favourite death metal bands. They have a brilliant drummer, Skitz, who has some of the fastest feet around with extremely quick bursts. The singer looks a bit like an Elvis inpersonator but still sounds good.
There are some samples on these websites
http://www.intoannihilation.com
http://damagedcore.com/downloads.php
The songs are a bit hard to come across in KaZaA but try to get Nails.

DARK TRANQUILITY. They are melodic black metal, a bit like In Flames and Children Of Bodom.

PIG DESTROYER. Extremely fast, quick and heavy. Brilliant lyrics and great screaming vocals. Their album 40 Counts Of Battery consists of 40 songs that go no longer that 1 minute. Give Piss Angel, Naked Trees, Deflower, Suicide Through Decay and Flag Burner a listen.

THE BERZERKER. Seizure enducing songs. Good for a listen every now and then or good for annoying people who listen to Top 10 Pop crap. Massacre, Forever, Cannibal Rights and Corpral Jigsaw Quandary are my favourites.

Man, if you can't find metal, you're not looking hard enough. Metal Maniacs is a real good magazine for harder metal. So is Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. Second one (Latter or former? Always get those two mixed up) even comes with a CD in every issue with all kinds of diff. bands, from established ones with new songs coming out, all the way to unsigned, independent bands.

I'm readin "The encyclopedia of Heavy Metal" and it's real good. You get a brief history on a lot of bands and a sort of synopsis of what their music's like and how it's changed throughout their career. Then to buy the stuff? Look no further than: http://shopping.theendrecords.com

They have so much metal ****, it's insane. And they're all pretty cheap. $13 mostly Me listing what I like probably won't help as much as that book, those 2 mags or that awesome ordering website. Check 'em out
The best music out is not on the radio or MTV!!!

I"m, of course, loyal to the bands that brought me to my tastes in music. I'm quite a fan for samael, newer style and older style alike. Soilwork might be in your interests. If you like hair metal-ish type stuff, then there's always power metal. In that respect there's all sorts of things, from stratovarius to hammer fall and iced earth to helloween and everything in between.
