What is the "poor mans" Gibson SG? ....
I want that AC/DC sound REAL BAD but can't afford that guitar(gibson SG).I'm to embarrased to say what i can afford so if you would rate them (if there is any)from lowest price on up i would greatly appreciate it.I have a Yamaha PAC112 (strat S-S-H)is there any way i can make it sound (pickups,pedals)like the gibson??i've seen strat style guitars with double humbuckers,can you get that AC/DC sound out of them??if not why?

.....the tonal difference is because the SG's and Les Paul types are Mahogany bodied and (some) have Mahogany necks whereas mostly light tone woods like alder, poplar, and stuff don't bring that "full" sounding Gibson sound.
But keep an eye out for pedal-type processors like the Digitech RP-100 and the like. They might be your alternative also.
But this RP is a bit noisy with single coil pickups though.

personally, I hate the tone processors generate. The closest you're going to get to that tone is to use one of your in between positions w/ your tone for the middle pickup rolled off a bit. But Elmo's right- your guitar is made out of entirely different woods and has a longer scale, you're not going to get exact SG tone no matter what you do.

I have an Epiphone SG310 which is a cheaper version of the Gibson SG same body style and everything. It sounds very very close to the AC/DC sound even thru my crappy Epiphone practice amp. This was the first guitar I ever bought and it has been about 8-9 monthes ago and it was $300.00 for the guitar, the epiphone practice amp, case, picks, strap, and a video. So the guitar itself should run you about $250.00 or so I would think.

Yeah it does tend to detune alot. Mostly just the B and D strings. Thats only with alot bending though.... which is bad for me since I'm into the blues alot. (Didn't know what style I wanted to play when I bought this guitar) I'm thinking maybe I could fix that with some locking tuners? I figure it probably isnt worth the trouble on this guitar though. But for a beginner it was a pretty good deal. I'm looking to move on to something else though... a Strat style.... I dont know yet.

Not to insult anyone, but maybe it's the way the strings are wound around the posts that is the tuning problem.
My Std. Strats and Epis don't have the best tuners in the world but I have no problem with them going out of tune right away.

To elaborate on what Elmo said, proper tchnique on stringing guitars goes a long way towards keeping them in tune. Check out this site for one way to string.

To my defense the guitar has been like this from day 1. With the way that the strings were wound from the factory. I have since restrung it and it still has the problem. It doesnt go out of tune right away, it takes alot of playing and only the G, B, and sometimes the D strings do it. Which are mainly the strings that I bend on since I play alot of blues.

To get a great AC/DC sound a epiphone G-400 works wonders
and the price range ain't to bad. I bought mine for about 400 bucks, and it sounds great!! Lots of people say epy's go out of tune fast, but mine rarly goes out, even through heavy string-bending solo's.Just plug it in, with some good distortion and you'll have a great AC/DC sound.
This is only my opinion, but my suggestion is to
shop around and try different guitars out, until you find one you like.

I don't know if I said it before on this site, but that 400 is a Beast! Great playability and a steal for the price. I like the deluxe one with the Maple top on it.
