Making Drum Beats to play over
Theres nothing I love more than sitting down and writing sick guitar riffs and screaming over them, but theres nothing I hate more than Making drum beats to do so in fruity loops, I dont know how to play drums and I dread making songs when it comes time to create a drum track for them, I am interested to know what others might use besides sitting for 2 hours putting a decent beat together, are there cds you can by with full out drum tracks written that I could write around? Kinda like the jam section of this page only just an acoustic drum beat and non of the bells and whistles. please let me know where to find them thanks so much

there are actually TONNS of Cd´s you can buy with drumloops, patterns, single-shots, etc etc etc. all in various formats - usually .wav or AKAI.
depending on your style you should just browse the net for drumloop cd´s or maybe ask your local musicstore.

I say purchase a drum machine. If you're writing your own riffs I think it'd be a bit lame buying CD backings, there'll not be much room for you to experiment and be generally more creative.

i said there are single shots too - like the double platinum drums cd´s - you can assign them in a sampler to a specific midi-value (use it in gigasampler, Halion or Logic Audio Platinum´s EXS24 sampler) and voila. the samples that i showed you (different thread though) where programmed with such single shots not with loops. so it aint lame.

Leafdrums2.2 --go get it. It's freeware. Nice GUI too. I use it for all my homemade recordings..

hmm.. i use leafdrums.. but i dont know where to find single hit .wav files sampled from real drumkits.. i live in pakistan and its next to impossible finding any cd's with all that stuff.. can somebody tell me where i could find any real drumkit single hits online? that too free!! thanku..

Get a few bits of real kits too, like just a snare, hihat and a couple of cymbals. If you don't know how to play well, you can edit loops together using ReCycle. For instance, just tap a beat with the hihat for a couple of bars, loop it and copy & paste it throughout the whole song. Nothing beats having the sound of the real thing mixed in with either a drum loop or drum machine because you can do all kinds of subtle things that are impossible to program in with just samples.

well thats what im saying.. ive been playing around with drum machines and the midi`ish drum sounds.. im looking for samples, single hits.. anything recorded from real drumkits preferably in .wav format.. snare, bass, cymbals.. can anyone tell me where i might find 'em? thanku..

my band all seem to come practise at my house... and as i dont hav a drum kit i bought a lil yamaha drum machine which actually sounds really good! it has 100 drum beats in it and is easy 2 play neway. probs not as high-tech as u were after, but it at least gives an idea of how things will sound.

i say download a free tryout version of acid ... download a couple of free drum loops from their site (im sure they got some with classic drum sets) ... set acid to loop ... choose a tempo ... there you go. and you can even record your guitar along with it ...

I have already downloaded all the samples I need, but I know there are sites on the net that have real drum samples in wav or aiff format. That you can then load into a sequencer program. One I used was called Phatsamples, sounds stupid but they had everything. ALl real and really good sounding, since then they have been shutdown because I think they were ripped from the cd's Az was talking about. There are still tons of sites out there so don't be lazy and use Google or something and type in "real drum samples" or whatever. I'm sure your find a billion.

I just use a simple tablature program called TABLEDIT and it plays everything back in MIDI. The program has a pretty sweet drum tab setup that allows you to mess with all kinds of intricate rhythms and get a fairly realistic sound depending on the sound font or MIDI chip you have. Plus tabledit doubles as a tab program so you can transcribe your songs at the same time as you make drum beats for them to get an idea how it could sound either way without any hassle.

If you use Fruity Loops, get FL Studio 4. It has lots of premade scores for different styles of drum beats.
But the major problem I have with Fruity Loops is that you have to have the same time signature for the whole song, which makes producing Math Metal songs really annoying, as you have to export lots of wav files and put them together in sound recorder or another program.

I'll have to check out that FL studio 4. As for fruity's problem with time sig's. I usually write out a whole drum pattern and then import into Fruity. Fruity's the only program I know of that can import midi files, and then be capable of subbing the midi for actually wav. drum sounds. Plus the multieffects for each track is a big help. If I initially wrote the drum beat on fruity, I don't think I would like that program at all.
