Get a few bits of real kits too, like just a snare, hihat and a couple of cymbals. If you don't know how to play well, you can edit loops together using ReCycle. For instance, just tap a beat with the hihat for a couple of bars, loop it and copy & paste it throughout the whole song. Nothing beats having the sound of the real thing mixed in with either a drum loop or drum machine because you can do all kinds of subtle things that are impossible to program in with just samples.
The one comment that's hardest to get away from when people listen to your music is 'I don't like the sound of the drum machine'.
