Give this a spin to see what a dremel tool can do as an effect.

http://www.station185.com/kronoson/kronosonic/Demos_Sounds/When%20Chon%20Chomps%20Roamed%20the%20Earth%20by%20Infinite%20Ego.mp3

I used a felt polishing wheel to "grind" the strings at various speeds. Also, there is the motor noise as well as allowing the tool to rest on the guitar body and picking up the sound through the wood...etc. I also used it on the strings behind the nut for a totally different sound.

A lot of the ambient sound throughout the song is the dremel and there are little grinding sounds, motor rev sounds, and pings and whatnot all through it that are from the machine...so, you can get some subtle effects or really obvious sounds too.

Hey if it works run with it.I've heard of using TV remotes for a pulsing effect.
Watch the long hair with the dremel though,Imagine getting that sucked up to your forehead mid solo and try to play it cool onstage.LOL(Allthough I do remember a practice session with m first band were one of the guys long hair got suced into a fan.We made him sit there for a few too LOL)

Whoa! I guess that's what they mean by industrial music! Cool man. I'm not always sure which bits are the dremmel , in fact, what the f*ck is a dremmel please somebody?!! I heard that the bassist from the almighty used a drill with a plectrum but I suspect that the person who told me might have been the same guy who is almost certainly the most prolific bull****ter on the face of this humbled earth. If he had more money there'd be a place for him in American politics.

For anyone who hasn't heard of it I'd like to recommend the E-bow as a cool way to get sustained sounds on a guitar, basically it works by creating a sustained feedback loop whose intensity and tone can easily be controlled. It's a great little gadget, you'll hear some on Division bell by pink floydd.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

Glad you guys like it.

A Dremel is a little hand-held power tool that features a lot of different attachments like grinders and buffers and what not. A cool device for messing around in the studio.

i guess there has already been stuff like that. i dunno who, but it was a very famous guitarrist who experimented with such things as putting a pick on a drilling machine and playing with it and stuff like that.

I am now going to go get a dremel tool and experiment.
Coupled with a digitech whammy and a little reverb/echo,I should be able to gove tom morello a run for his money!

Later! \m/

Paul gilbert? He put 4 picks on a drill bit as a stunt at shows. It all blew up in his face once when his hair got caught in the drill. guitarists have been doing things like this for ages I like the sounds ego is getting. also you can use any electromagnetic source even watches and vibrators

how many tracks are on that recording?

it reminds me of the song that Jimmy Page wrote for the sound track of death wish, real creepy sounding

It's been a while since that was recorded. Probably, 8 - 12 tracks at most. I just can't remember. Creepy would be a good description.
