How do I know when and to what new scale to change to when soloing--like from harmonics to blues or vice versa???

Thanks

Unless your playing some crazy Jazz or something, you probably won't have to worry about changing scales mid solo, unless ofcourse you song changes keys in the middle of the solo, which it probably wont.
As for knowing what solo to use, it helps to know what key your song is in, and what kind of music your playing. I'f I'm playing a slow song in the key of D minor, I could use a D minor scale for soloing. If I'm playing a rock song in the Key of A, I could use an A blues scale to solo with. Its all pretty basic. Use the scale which most corresponds to the song, especially the key signature and mood.

And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

iĀ“m not sure if that has something to do with talent. maybe it has, but not exclusively. i remember a time when i was not able to solo over a given progression of chords. all i did was solo over anything. a song on the radio, tv or to some cdĀ“s. even soloing over tunes i have never heard before. that was a good training and now, when i enter studio and it says "soo over this song" i listen to it once. then i listen to it a second time playing along with it and the third time is record time. the more practice i get with that the more likely it for me to do a first take improvised solo that meets all requirements

Like you said, that probably comes from playing guitar a whole bunch. Until then, I like to use my scales and stuff, just to be safe. :)

Yeah, he does. Go check out Bach's Tocatta in Azrael's trick list. Sounds pretty sweet.

bull honkey everyone can do that. Maybe after a lot of practice, but you freakin nailed it man. I mean that's the song I whip out if a chick comes into the room, cuz it sounds so awesome. But then I play your version and it just sounds a sh*tload better and I'm like, "damn...well, time to go practice."

Look, dude, all I'm trying to say is that it's a difficult song and you played it extremely well. Take the compliment, man, I'm telling you that you rock! Now's not the time to be modest.

That's better. Come on, give me a big smile, big guy!

Plus I know about 800 begginers who definitely can't play that song even after a lot of practice.

Why does it always have to be a chick?

Yeah. Goth chicks (sorry holly but jolly got a point) love that tune. Classical music definitely gets the chicks. Az's smile kinda looks like one of the three musketeers too, you know with the mouth that sort of looks like that curly stash they have. My 2 cents.
