Ok this post appears every month or so but who cares! Just name three and give a reason!

1.GnR - Sweet Child o Mine - Classic wah wah and brilliant change of key and tempo!

2.Aerosmith - Dude(looks like a lady) - I defy anyone to play this anywhere near as good as perry can!

3.Metallica - Master of Puppets - The classical solo during the clean chord arpeggios, it symbolises the calm after the storm and makes you think every thing is gona be ok! LOL!LAter

I love the SCOM solo too, its my favourite GnR one. Even just strumming the chords to it, youd nerver mistake it for anything else. The chords are just as important as the solo, thats why I think Slash n Izzy were amazing together.

Its the way the solo kicks in as the song changes key that I love, the use of B7 sounds perfect.

Yeah, the B7 always made the hairs on my neck stand up, even before I was a musician. Ive written a bunch of tunes with the same chords, but no matter what I do it always ends up sounding like SCOM. The C-B7(I-VII7) change is amazing tho, I try to use it to sound different. Still sounds like Sweet Child tho!

Another one I like is Mick Mars' solo on Too Young To Fall In Love by Motley Crue. I love the Crue.

Big bad moon - the first lead solo, the slide solo and the harmonica break. Satch's finest hour..er make that 5 minutes 13 seconds.

generally, most of my fave solos are from the 70's from bands such as Allman Brothers, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band and early Molly Hatchett...hmm..bit of a strong Southern flavour there.

If there's some great slide playing it's a sure winner with me.

I also like the SCOM solo it's one of the all time best but I don't like Guns n roses as a whole.

My favourites from the 80's would be anything by maiden fav right now would be from the trooper, anything by angus he just rocks everytime, anything by megadeth, hit the lights from tallica and on..... the 80's were great for guitar solos.

Actually John Sykes got fired, because he was more like a hired gun than anything. If you pay close attention, you will notice that the lineup changed with every album, because David Coverdale actually owned the Whitesnake name and ran it like a business.... sort of... But since he didn't keep a regular lineup he fell into rock obscurity because the albums never sounded alike. Too bad too.

Well since I didn't have time to really think about my 3 fav's this morning, here they are this evening...

1. Extreme " Play with Me". why, if you have to ask that....

2. David Lee Roth "Shy Boy". Hey anything by Vai is worthy...

3. Living Colour "Cult of Personality". I love that off the cuff solo stuff...

Many people don't know it, but the solo in Paul McCartney's "No More Lonely Nights" (1985) is just great. Paul invited David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) to play with him, and that is the result...the writing genius of McCartney with the guitar skills of Gilmour.
