Actually John Sykes got fired, because he was more like a hired gun than anything. If you pay close attention, you will notice that the lineup changed with every album, because David Coverdale actually owned the Whitesnake name and ran it like a business.... sort of... But since he didn't keep a regular lineup he fell into rock obscurity because the albums never sounded alike. Too bad too.
