Stick, Double neck or War Guitar?
Do any of you guys play any of the above? Do any of you play more than one? Can you recommend a type that particularly benefits multi-part ambidextrous play? As for double necks, what arrangement is best, necks in same direction or opposite direction?

Woah, I dunno what a stick guitar or war guitar is, but I'll try to help.
You can get double neck guitars that go in opposite directions, left hand and right hand, but those are probably all big expensive custome jobs, but if you did get one, both necks should be the same, for continuity, ya know, a right handed 6 string and a left handed 12 string would be strange, and would just get your different hands used to different things.
Anywhoo, the cheaper solution in my mind would be one right handed guitar, and one left handed guitar or the same kind.

The stick is a pretty different instrument than the guitar , it's tapping instrument only I think ... Azrael got one a while a go , he's the only one here who could help you about the stick .
As for having an opposite double neck guitar for ambidextrous playing , I've tried left handed guitar before (I'm right handed) , and I know I wasn't that bad in my fisrt day with guitar so I dumped the idea , plus it's worthless other than showing off , which you can do with lot's of other tricks ... I mean what are you REALLY going to do with it ? You can play more effectively with a sequencer or something that plays back ... or with another guitarist !
Even Michael Angelo himself never used it for recording , he just show off live with it.
Before throwing your money on something like that , try playing your guitar with the other hand , don't bother flipping the strings and try to play some chromatic exercises , just to see if it could work for you.
So what's a "war guitar" ?

Actually I have learned to play some guitar left handedly, it's hard. I don't think it's a gimmick. check out some of Adam Fulara's stuff (google search it). Pianists play with both hands after all. Michaelangelo may just be a show off but you've got to admit even just showing off is important!

I think there called "warr" guitars...though war would be cooler. If those stick/tapping instruments were not so expensive,I'd get one.Dont throw out your guitars and basses just yet.I think it will be a long time before guitars are universally replaced by superior tools for expression.Digital amp modeling and other guitar/amp innovations are still in their infancy. It would be like another format of video coming out after everyone just got done accepting the dvd format as a valid change from vhs.

Sure man , it's my 4th priority after (music, tone & technique) , but I don't think I'm gonna force myself learning each picking and fretting technique again from a to z , waste time , and money (on a guitar like Michael Angelo's) , just to show off , while I can teeth pick , back play , fret from above the neck ,etc... And all these do the job pretty well
That's my 2 cents .
Just checked the warr guitars , they look pretty much like the stick thing, so I assume they're mainly for tapping too , right ?

Hey, does anyone know a website where I can take a look at these stick or war guitar things? They sound really interesting. I'd like to take a look at them.

http://www.stick.com/ that's the main site for the stick , as for the warr guitar I've just checked it out today by searching for "warr guitar" in yahoo.

Those sticks look pretty cool. Come to think of it, I remember my old guitar teacher telling me about some people who play exclusivly by tapping. I bet he was talking about someone who played a stick.

Yeah either that or Stanley Jordan, who plays chords with one hand and taps the melody with the other.
One observation... on the stick site. is it just me or does it look like everyone is standing with a stick up their a$$ too?

So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

They're pretty expensive too , specialy for something your still going to explore & you don't know where are you going with ... I think I'll "STICK" ;) with my 6 strings for a big while before I get enough cash to experiment stuff like these.

LOL
I don't think you can sit with something that big unless your 9 feet tall or something !
I have a small clip by Greg Howard (got it from the stick site a while ago) , the first thing he says "You're gonna have to hold the stick" .

I don't think I'll get a stick guitar. I'll be the subject if a lot of jokes. :)

to let u know the stick isnt a guitar..they way u play the stick is different...its tunned allot different and the frets are alot more wide.. i seriously doubt you would be the laughing stock or watever the hell you wanna call it..i see more posibilities on the stick than just a regular guitar

the strings are not alot more wide - the distance between the strings are pretty much the same as for guitar. i´ve posted a thread in the "places/sites" section of this forum with links to touchstyle-instruments. i strongly recommend to test the stick/warr/megatar/bunker/whatever-guitar before you spend ALOT of money on it. those instruments are not available in a cheap beginner version like guitars are. so you gotta expect to be paying 3 grand and more to get one of those.
the touchstyle playing on a stick or warr can not be compared to tapping on a guitar, for you hardly need to touch the strings on a stick to produce a decent tone. it takes alot of work to get the independency between left and right. mentally its like playing the piano, but still different, because you got more dimension to the play. you can add bendings, vibrato, slides, harmonics, slapping plus on a piano you just go left right and you dont have to pay as much attention to get a clear tone.

i didnt say the strings were wider.. i meant to say the fret space is bigger or atleast it was to me

oh .. sorry... read it the wrong way. well yes - the scale is notably longer than on a normal guitar

hmm.. the bass-part of my spring 1st movement is played with the stick.. not very helpfull though at the given sound quality. i´m still not good enough on the stick to seriously record something that makes sense. will take me some time.

Btw , what do you use for amplification ? I think the bass strings on the stick can blow a normal guitar amp ,yeah ?
