Who is your favorite guitarist of all time. Please don't say Hendrix unless it's really true. Mine is, kind of weird, Martin Barre from Jethro Tull.

The late Shawn Lane.
I ****ing hate having to say "the late" though. I almost cried when I we were jamming to his song Not Again today.

Are we aloud to narrow it down to our favourite 3? Because mine is kind of a tie.

Leo Kottke, why?
one of the very few musicians who can make great listenable albums using just one type of instrument ..and no vocals, although some of his albums do have singing.
transformed the acoustic 12-string from a sappy strum-along thing into a mighty fingerplucked beast
the meatiest sound in the history of the acoustic guitar
off the wall sense of humour
very unique, distinctive and warm tone mixing up rock, jazz, country, bluegrass, folk,classical,blues..
wide variation in playing from fast fingerstyle sounding like 3 players at once to quiet ambient melodies to weird-out and strange tunings.
also no mean player of the electric guitar and 6-string bass.
Frankly, LK is essential listening for anyone serious about quality guitar playing. He's made over 20 albums, the best of which are:
'Greenhouse', '6 & 12 string guitar', 'Mudlark', 'Dreams and all that stuff', 'Chewing pine', 'Leo Kottke', 'Guitar Music', 'Regards from Chuck Pink', 'One guitar no vocals' and the live 'My feet are smiling'. These albums are all or mostly instrumental. His more vocal oriented stuff are a bit more of an acquired taste.
Here endeth the lesson.

Another awesome acoustic guitar similar to Leo Kottke is Michael Hedges. I just discovered him about a month ago, and wow. I was just as stunned with him as I was with Kottke. Check him out if you haven't heard.
"You must stab him in the heart with the Bone Saber of Zumacalis... well, you could stab him in the head or the lungs, too... and the saber, it probably doesn't have to be bone, just anything sharp lying around the house... you could poke him with a pillow and kill him."

He was a top player but to me he lacked the warmth of Kottke's playing and also did use effects to some extent which Kottke doesnt.

Have you listened to the cd Leo did with the bassist from Phish?
I haven't heard it, the reviews I've read were quite mixed.

My girlfriends mom is a huge Leo Kottke fan, shes not a guitarist but she loves his music. I must check his stuff out some day.
I have too many favourite guitarists, none really stand out.

I am a Neil Zaza, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson fan myself...
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

for me it's always changing, right now it's Jon Schaffer, ALexi Laiho and Andre Olbrich
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

My favourite guitarist is Dimebag. Aswell as being a great player and writing some great stuff his heart is in the right place. He is the living embodiment of heavy metal.

Mine is pretty weird too: Kurt Cobain. I know he's not very good, but I still wish I could sound like him.

For life is quite absurd and death's the final word, You must always face the curtain with a bow
