one of the very few musicians who can make great listenable albums using just one type of instrument ..and no vocals, although some of his albums do have singing.
transformed the acoustic 12-string from a sappy strum-along thing into a mighty fingerplucked beast
the meatiest sound in the history of the acoustic guitar
off the wall sense of humour
very unique, distinctive and warm tone mixing up rock, jazz, country, bluegrass, folk,classical,blues..
wide variation in playing from fast fingerstyle sounding like 3 players at once to quiet ambient melodies to weird-out and strange tunings.
also no mean player of the electric guitar and 6-string bass.
Frankly, LK is essential listening for anyone serious about quality guitar playing. He's made over 20 albums, the best of which are:
'Greenhouse', '6 & 12 string guitar', 'Mudlark', 'Dreams and all that stuff', 'Chewing pine', 'Leo Kottke', 'Guitar Music', 'Regards from Chuck Pink', 'One guitar no vocals' and the live 'My feet are smiling'. These albums are all or mostly instrumental. His more vocal oriented stuff are a bit more of an acquired taste.
Here endeth the lesson.
