Hello,

I've been with guitar tricks for quite a long time. I've neglected the guitar for long though because I wasn't improving. My fault obviously. Life got in the way. So now I am back and hopefully I can start improving. I've been stuck at the beginner guitarist stage since I was 16. I'm now 42 lol

Welcome back, maybe you are like me, I bought my 1st at 17. I didn't actually learn to play it until I was 57, but I still have that guitar lol

Good luck

Bill

I've been playing since I was 12, I didn't start practicing regularly until I was about fifty. For what it's worth I still think I'm rubbish (which is why I'm here to learn) but I've managed to fool a few people into thinking I can play. I'm hoping to be 'competent' by 60! I've gone through the two fundimentals courses in about three weeks, I'm halfway through the Blues Level 1 and hit the 'bugger, I'm going to have to go away and practice this' point.

I figure (hope!) it's never too late.

And for what it's worth, and at risk of getting a little depressing, a friend of mine who's in his late sixties had a stroke a few years ago, when his therapist found out he was a guitarist, and a good one, her response was 'You'll be fine, your neural pathways will be like motorways', today, after also quitting smoking, he's in better shape than he was 10 years ago. Guitar playing is good for the brain!

Welcome back, Nick. I came  a few weeks ago.  Life really got in the way. I’m 73 still working on my desire to play guitar.  I’m been stuck in the beginner stage too.

We are not quitting.
cheers, Barb

Wow thank you all for the warm greeting and replies. My hope is to film my guitar playing and get feedback so look out for videos of me playing my guitars.

I have an Epiphone acoustic and an Epiphone Les Paul electric

Hi, Nick I loved your post.  Me, too.  Been with GT many years.  Always ignore it when the weather is nice, so I can play golf and work in the garden.  When I get back to it, my fingertips are tender and have to get tough again.  What a pain.

You're so young at 42, you have decades to learn and improve.  I'm envious (a few months shy of being 79) but also happy to think about someone as young as you taking advantage of the opportunity ahead of you.

Don't kick yourself for straying.  You're back now and you'll have a great time learning more.  I've gone through the basic, blues, country, etc., courses taught by Anders Mouridsen.  You'll love his lessons, approach and personality.

Wishing you all the best in your journey.

Hey all,

Interesting topic you got going here.  I don't feel so odd now.  The short version for me is I got my first guitar when I was 43 (roughly).  Started with a couple of lesson books and any YouTube videos I could follow.  It was about a year later when I found GT.  Like many of you, I was on again/off again with my practicing.  I was on here for several years and worked my way through Level 1 and 2 and then started the Blues track before life took over again and the guitars sat in the corner of the room collecting dust.

I haven't picked them up for 6 years, and here I am at 58, starting over again.  I came back to GT because I like the breakdown of the lessons and different tracks.

See you in the forums.
