Damn, I'm ranked 6th....

Hm.....Someone tell me if they want to give up their moderator position, I've been itching for one ever since I hit Grizzled Veteran, though they have been filled (some of them are very passive, I might add, in moderation).

well - you have to see that this site is very well working and peeps know how to behave (unlike some other boards where there is war all day long). so it is hardly ever necessary to edit or delete posts, which is the main task of a mod - to keep the site clean.
But i do agree on the participating side - some mods have not been seen in ages..

Right, I was leaning towards your 2nd idea when I wrote that. I believe Mods should be very active in participation, and some of them really aren't. I haven't seen EducatedFilm around in ages, Lalimacefolle just came back after a long break, etc. There are alot of mods here that are active, and I'm glad to see that, but to see someone with a Moderator position not participating, well to me, that tells something. To me, that says that you don't think very much of the position, and aren't really using it for the gain of the group. Then I ask the question "Why even be a moderator if you don't want to help out? If you want to sit on the sidelines, don't ask to be team captain". Do you know what I mean?

Of course, we've been blessed with a relatively clean forum, but participation should really be a factor. I once asked the duties of a moderator (I believe it was a year and a half ago), and either Lal or Lord responded, saying that the person needs to have a certain amount of discipline, needs to have knowledge on the topic in whatever forum it is, needs to help people out, needs to be active. Why am I not seeing this?

I didn't come here in a while because I'm actually moderating the french's equivalent to this site (actually it's between This one and guitarwar) Since I knew I wouldn't come here, I wanted out of the moderation... Well...

I plan on informing Jon about this; Roughly half the moderators on this site are not active members. There are plenty of members (myself, PonyOne, etc) who spend much more time on here, with the same or better knowledge, who would like the chance to be a moderator. This is my way of "improving the site"; although this is easily the greatest guitar website around, it can only get better with active moderators. Every other forum on the internet has moderators that are very active (and we do, just not as much as we could).

I believe Jon originally filled some of the moderator spots when the website was not so huge (back in 2000/early 2001) , which makes sense, considering guitarist101 has 30 posts, and is a moderator, not to be seen since 8/16/02, more than a year ago. Look, fellas, there needs to be change; This site hosts 25,000 + members (rumors are that it has reached 30,000), there is no excuse to have moderators that don't participate in their own forums.

I only put Educatedfilm on there because he was out for a very long time, only to recently come back; considering that the Open Discussion gets a massive amount of hits compared to all other forums on the website, it seems to me that the water was running only half-full (or half-empty, depending on how you see it).

I realize that "Incidents Happen" (:D), and that sometimes people can't post on here as much as they'd like. However, when you go over two months without posting, that draws the line. If you have school, that is fine, but please, for the sake of the board, make a decision. If you want to be a moderator on GuitarTricks, make an impact. Personally, I want to make a difference; I'd like to help improve the website, and I'd like to take it to the next level, as far as that goes.

If anyone has anything to add about this, please, feel free to do so.

I think you are right, up to a point.

The board is what it is. The best moderators won't make a ****ty crew of users be a welcoming forum, and a bad crew of mods won't kill a good bunch of ol' fellas on an active forum.

But I think you have put a very true thing in evidence: A good dozen of guys have a rank they do not fill... Let's see what Jon will do.

If Jon decides to clean up, I'm available for two moderator positions (Open Discussion + any other one).

I think Dr. Simon should get another position, he does a great job with the recording forum;
Now I'm just searching for Broderick's email...
