Hello all

After weeks of procrastinating, I have just taken the plunge and signed up for my first year.

My name is Paul and I live in Winnipeg.

I first picked up a guitar when I was 11 or 12. It was my brothers and, without books or tuition, I managed the play 'God save the Queen' on one string. That was 50 years ago! Since then, I have had many guitars, most of them ending up as wall art. I buy one, with the best of intentions, try some courses (I have tried Rocksmith and Fender among others).  Frustration with lack of progress and staying motivated are my big issues. So here I am again, ready to try and learn this instrument that has become a sort of nemesis for most of my life. It has taken me 6-months to pick up the guitar again and become focused enough to try again. I am optimistic and relish this latest part of my musical journey. I am glad to be sharing it with you all!

Wish me luck!

Hi Paul and welcome to guitartricks!

I also struggle with motivation and I've also been playing for a while on and off. This website is packed with great information and lessons and I highly recommend you check out Anders' weekly videos he posts up in Guitar Insider. You can access them under the Features tab. Some of them are hands on practice type but most of them I enjoy with a cup of coffee.

I hope you like this website. Go through Fundamentals 1 & 2 with Anders or Lisa (I picked Anders) even though you might find it very basic. It really does help to know what all is covered there so that you don't have any gaps in your playing. And use the forum to your advantage. There are many great, experienced players here who are willing to help you out with any specific questions. Even questions about motivation will be answered in the Open Discussion. Furthermore, Anders has his own forum section you can explore. I usually go through the forum during work and play when I get home.

Best of success!

Jibran

You can realize your dream here Paul. I started around the same age and with a consistent dedication and time it’s definitely working. This is a great site with wonderful teachers and a strong community. The key is to take your time and master each step. Remember that every time you practice some amount of improvement is happening even if you can’t see it. Enjoy the process it’s a gift to be able to make any amount of music!

Home of The Guess Who!! Rock on man! 😉

As noted, a very common story Paul. Can't really add anything to what Mike said, best of luck to you.
