Joe stump - guitar god
# 1
first of all, he's good, but not a guitar god. his technique is pretty sloppy.
second, for tabs, try his site
second, for tabs, try his site
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

he is one of the best neo-classical guitarists wtf are you talking about. he is better than the oh so great "jimi hendrix" , jimi is no good.

I gotta get out from under my rock once in a while and join the rest of the world, cause I NEVER heard of this Joe Stump fella...
He got anything on MP3.com?
He got anything on MP3.com?
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Well I think that the reasons why Jimi hendrix are being seen as a guitar god has little to do with his techniques. I mean if you compaire him to someone like yngwie his technique ain't much to brag about. But Jimi started this new era of rock'n roll music. Come to think about it, I don't think that Joe stump and Yngwie would have sounded the way they do now if it weren't for jimi. Thats just my opinion.
...and that is funny

Dude... Lay off the crack, cause it's making you say crazy things...
Jimi Hendrix was probably the single most influencial guitar player next to Jimmy Page for just about anyone who was anyone playing guitar in the 70's and 80's. Not to mention that his songs still have the "staying power" on commercial radio. Everyone that you probably regard as an influence will probably quote Hendrix as one, so in a since, you are influenced by Hendrix by association. Yeah I know his technique was way sloppy, but it was so far ahead of his time he stood out and people wanted to play like him. You gotta realize that when he was playing " Foxy Lady" and " Machine Gun", and "Voodoo Chile" a lot of folks were still doing " Help Me Rhonda" and " Runaway" (Basically a bunch of 3 chord wishywashy stuff)(Hmmm, maybe rock is coming full circle, cause we are back to 3 chord wishywashy stuff again)
So yeah, Hendrix deserves his "guitar god" status, and he is FAR from overrated. You could give the "overrated" moniker to a lot of the neoclassical clones out there today. There are very few in my mind that really stand out, and they don't stand very far out there.
Maybe I am just old. I mean my influences are Hendrix, Page, Van Halen, Bettencourt, Vai,and Angus Young. I listened to Malmsteen and Impelliterri when I was 16 or so, and I even bought their cassettes and leaned some of their songs. ("Over the Rainbow" from Impelliterri was pretty cool at the time.) I can't honestly say that I am not really influenced by any of their playing though, except maybe to tighten up my practice regimen.

saying crazh things?? its jst an opinion..i think hes overrated u dont..u ggrew up around hendrix i didnt.. so that probly why i think hes overrated.. but i do agree with u with the neoclassical clones being overrated..there are only a couple of tru neoclassical people (impellitrlli sp? malmsteen and a couple of other)if u listen to some classical u soon realize that the old old old guys (bach mozart) were much faster than malmsteen impell.. and the many clones.. i like van halens soloing style..im just not a bluesy rock or watever u wanna call it person

Jimi Hendrix was revolutionary , and the most influential guitarist ever , even more than Jimi Page and EVH (since he influenced both!) .
You can't call a revolutionary guy "overrated" , while some of his successors get same or more credit than him.
Also remember that it was only 4 or so years , that he changed the way guitar was played , and for good.

I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

some parts of his songs are off beat if you listen carfully, its pretty hard to hear because he plays so fast, but settle down man, he is my #2nd fave guitarist of all time :} hes amazing, "Unrelenting" is really fast, for the guy who said bach or mozart was faster than most neo classical guys today, listen to that song, sounds so classical ands its vERY fast.

I have listened to Bach and Mozart, and neither of them played anything on guitar. They were either arranged for guitar or otherwise. They played piano. I was going to say more, but I think that this is all I need to say...
Now repeat after me...
Hendrix is God...Hendrix is God...There is none higher..

wrong. Actually Bachs music for example is played like 10 times faster nowadays then it used to be. Those pieces where pieces to which peeps danced. i know a few baroque-dancers and they all agree that classical music - especially bachs - was played WAY slower back then - else you can impossibly dance to those tunes. the time signatures where also not that correct back then - bachs allegro was different then mozarts allegro for example.
Dudes like malmsteen simply take some of those patterns that have been written back then and play them 549069546 times as fast - very impressive indeed

...and that is funny
# 18
