of course not EVERY classical song is dancing music - but generally you can say that music was not that fast in the old world.

I heard some of Paganini's caprices recorded back in the 30's or 40's , and they were slower than they are played nowadays (I'm talking about violins of course).
And I'm pretty sure that Paganini himself had to be a little slower than those 30's guys who were practicing his stuff day and night for years.

Same happened with electric guitars at different eras , but the evolution took place faster due to mass communications , recordings and so ... Early Blues & Rock , Hendrix , Page , EVH & Rhoads , Malmsteen & Vai ... And now , Michael Angelo , Rusty Cooley , Fareri & all other "Cyborg Machines".

That's how life goes on .... Evolution !

That's for sure dude , no one can argue that he's the greatest violinist (and probably instrumentalist) ever stepped on earth , but that doesn't mean that he was faster than those folks playing his stuff now.
Hendrix was the best one day, but nowadays beginners can learn his stuff only after a couple of months of guitar lessons !! And that doesn't make him any less than he were at his days.

I know people who have been playing for years , and couldn't get into any of Malmsteen's , although I find his stuff to be relatively easy now.

As for Paganini's on guitar , his stuff were written for violin which is technically different from guitars ... That's why no body could dare to play these on guitar till new guitar techniques were developed in the 80's like sweeping , also alternate picking became more precise and a lot faster.

BTW, I played the 5th Caprice @220bpm , but get sloppy on some parts. :)
I play it in the E scale instead of A , to go on through the 4 octave scale runs ... You can find lots of excellent tabs on http://www.olga.net & http://www.mysongbook.com .

Marshall Harrison = Modern day Paganini.........Amen.
What's the difference between a puppy and a singer-songwriter?
