I want to start learning to play solos, i am having trouble trying to just play something fast without it just sounding like noise. Is there any scales or anything that you play fast with tremelo picking, i think you tremelo pick when playing the fast solos , so i can practise doing this and then once i get the technique try and learn a solo?

Oh and anybody know of a solo that is easier to play than others that i could look at?

Thanks Jowin. :D

Slayer's solos are more of keeping the beat and time than taking care of the notes , and sometimes they just tremolo pick and move up and down the fretboard like in "Angel of Death".

As a general rule for playing fast solos , separate them into small licks , then learn each lick at a very slow tempo gradualy increasing speed and connecting licks together.
A metronome would also help.

"Seasons in the Abyss" , "Dead Skin Mask" & "Antichrist" are my fav Slayer solos ... Usualy , Slayer solos are short and easy to memorize & play.

A metronome is a time keeping machine... Go to the store and ask the salesman to show you one , or search for a metronome program online ... I remember I saw free ones on http://www.download.com .

Sweep picking is picking in one direction while changing strings , mainly used for Arpeggios... Here's an example :

D................ U......................
e-----------------8--12--8--------------------
b------------10--------------10---------------
g---------9----------------------9------------
D-----10-----------------------------10--------
A-12---------------------------------------12--
E----------------------------------------------

D= Downstroke , U= Upstroke

That was an Amin arpeggio.

If this one's hard for you , try the three string version of it.

D......... U.........
e--12-p8----------------8--|-----|
b---------10-------10-----%|--10-|
g--------------9-----------|-----|

Check out Metallica's "Lepper Messiah" solo , it's a good beginning to learn sweeping.

Copy the tab lines and past in a text document to view correctly.

I was just messing around with my rose using frets around 22-24 and taping the wammy bar, i then pulled it up, apparently at justthe right time, and my guitar made an awsome screaming sound. If i could get it to do that at will then i would be a very chuffed individual :D I tried doing it again but i couldn't get it to do it. So does anybody out there know how to do it?

Thanks Jowin

I got a metronome called Wierd Metronome, but it seems like just a thing that you use to make up tunes......how do i use this to help keep in time and beat with solos? Do i have to record the solo into it and play along with it or some thing like that?

For a cool screaming sound with relatively very high pitch , I recomend harmonics (natural ,tap) , and mess around with the FR .

For the metronome , do you know how to divide rhtyhms ?
the whole note, 8th, 16th , etc ?
This is how to play along with the metronome , each beat form the metronome is a quarter note , so if you're playing 16th notes , that would be 4 notes per metronome beat.

I dont know what any of that 8th 16th stuff is, but im guessing 8th means an 8th of a note so it is 8 times faster than a note, or some thing like that.

I dont know how to read music or anything like that so i have very limited knowledge in that kind of thing.

What is the FR?........

Yes, 8th note is one 8th of a whole note ... You should take a look at some beginner rhythm division lessons , they're extremely important for a musician... You don't have to read standard notation for it , some tabs got that timing in them.

FR = Floyd Rose tremolo system , I was refering to the tremolo bar when I said FR ... My mistake , I should have said trem bar or whamy bar instead. :)
