Can you buy 'Noise@ reducing things?

I want to reduce the noise im getting, but im not sure how. Just wondered if there is anything i could buy like a pedal or sometihng that reduces noise.

a noise gate will stop the hum when not playing.

anybody know of a decent noise gate that is not too expensive?

a noise gate will note effect the hum during playing only when your strings are vibrating remember that. If there is noise while your playing then there could be mainy reasons for that. Try boss and digitech, they make good products.

Try a really good cable first. Something twisted and braided to reject noise. Expect to spend $30 to $40 bucks on a good cable.

First if your playing a piggy back (head n cab) get a monster pro studio 1000 speaker cable to plug in from the head to cab, you'll be amazed at how much this will reduce sound, if your hooking straight up into a combo then try a good ol monster cable (can't go wrong) a nice 20 ft studio 1000 from sam ash is only like 140 bucks heh. well don't need to go that overkill....umm bring your gear into your nearest guitar store and try out some of their higher end cables to see if that does the trick, if not try out a noise gate, and if that still doesn't do the trick for some reason get better pickups =/

Just FYI, a lot of things can cause noise that a filter won't fix. What kind of guitar and pickups do you have. Florescent lights, computers, monitors, speakers, printers, etc...can all reek havoc to your rig. A noise gate won't help here. Just something to think about.

Trendkillah makes some very nice points and to add to the above, cables are also gauged by how complete the shielding is i.e. 25% coverage, 75% coverage, the more coverage the more expensive the cable, the more noise is rejected ! Im using Monster 500 instrument cable's at the mo, they are about 50 bucks and will last a lifetime. I never have to worry about a guitar cable again!

There are also some other things you can do. The first is avoiding all of the things mentioned in fendermonkey77
's post. Also ground loops are a common source of noise and misery. They are easy to avoid and will be prevented by getting a GROUNDED serge protector or four way adapter and plugging everything into it before going into the wall. Some people also use a power conditioner, this is a good idea ! They are about 30 bucks and can make a considerable difference.

I have a lot of stuff in my room so i think that could be giving some noise :(....I have 2 TVs :confused:, a computer and a cd player. If all of this is turned off then wont that stop the interferance it causes?

I have an Ibanez RG-27ODX-CE and my amp is a Marshal MG30DFX. My guitar has 2 humbuckers and a single coil....(i think the double single coils next to each other are humbuckers). I have a ****ty £8 cable so that wont be helping with the noise. Im going to buy a Monster 500 instrument cable but i have the Boss Metalzone MT-2 so wont i need 2!? because i have to connect the guitar to the pedal and the pedal to the amp. I was thinking about cutting the cable and puting new connectors on each end so i can just have one short one and a long one, but i suppose this will bugger up the balancing will it? Or isd it possible if i get two new connectors of the same type thats on the Monster 500 instrument cable's?

I have found 2 sites with the Monster Rock 500 Cables and there are straight and angled jacks. The one with straight jacks is more expensive so im guessing that means they're not as good? Will they both reduce noise to the same amount?

The pickups that look like 2 single coils are more than likely humbuckers. They're sole purpose in life is to be quiet (hence...buck the hum).

The single coil, you should notice, is a bit noisier than the other pickups on your guitar.

Yes, you'll need 2 cables if your using a pedal:

Guitar -- cable -- pedal -- cable -- amp.

Now I've used the Metal Zone before and it can be a bit noisy too, but should be okay when it's turned off. Meaning, if it's on and you're not playing it may be noisy.

If you're not experienced with soldering
and cable terminations I would suggest not tampering with a Monster cable...would ruin its warranty. Just buy 2...buy the best and only cry once.

All in all you should be pretty quiet after the upgrades, but unfortunately noise is always present at some level...don't drive yourself mad about it.
