At the moment Paul Gilbert and his work with Racer X

Very hard to tell. I have a couple heroes who shift from day to day. Right now is pretty much as Benoit, Paul Gilbert and his Racer X era (Bruce Bouillot too of course). But next day it could be Malmsteen our Petrucci our Becker.

But hereĀ“s a small list of my fav. players and my inspirations:

P. Gilbert, Malmsteen, Petrucci, Becker, Vai & Satch, Hammett & Slash, Zakk Wylde and Ace "Space" Frehley. These are the main duds in my life but there are some others as well.

Hasn't this thread been posted a million times? But either way, I could listen to Keith Richardsa all day, but I'm really getting into Jimmy Page and SRV at the moment.

Zakk Wylde is my favorite guitarist but i can't get enough Jimi Hendrix, and all of the stuff that Randy Rhoads did is just crazy. there's a lot of others i love but these three are my all-time favorite.
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

i guess another good question is:
what makes your guitar hero?
is it the solos? the riffs? the musicality? the speed? the integrity?

I think it's more about the creativity... That's why Hendrix & Page ruled in the past , and that's why my current fav is Vai.

Of course all the other factors you mentioned are considered too , but what's so interesting about the fastest guitarist on earth who plays crappy music, or adds nothing new ? He'll just be a nice performer , not a true artist.

I don't mean that speed isn't important cuz technique & speed is a must have to be a good instrumentalist, but being the fastest isn't important at all.

yeah, i should have included creativity. how i could i forget?
well, i agree with the speed comments. i don't really think someone is a good guitarist if they are the fastest guitarist. they might be a good AND fast guitarist, but burning through finger scales and midget licks doesn't really impress me. i'm constantly amazed by guitarists that can distinctly play fast solos. i know some guys that can burn the fretboard but it's all trash. and then guys who can barrel through some tough licks and crazy fast solo runs without skipping a beat or a note.
i guess i'm just trying to say that a combination is what i'm looking for:

good OR good and fast
NOT
fast and not good
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

I really dont know who my favourite guitarist is, maybe I sound boring but Ive never been a big fan of any particular guitarist, I have alot of bands/artists I listen to and think "that's the best guitarits ever", Im boring.

In response to the points about fast playing/shredders, its not my thing, its not what id listen to personally. I do feel theres alot of snobbery between shredding fans and "anti-shredders" in the absense of a better word. Alot of fans of shredding think any guitarist who doesnt shred isnt good, and the same in the other direction. Its true in many cases, I believe many shredders are musically talentless but there are amazing musicians like Vai, Satriani whose music I wouldnt listen to by choice but have to admit theyre great.

In conclusion Ill go with Neil Young cos everyone here seems to think hes terrible. :)

Kirk Hammett? someone needs their ears testing...

I dont think its fair to rate players over the others, i mean, take guitarists like Petrucci and SRV, amazing in their own right, but its a completely different style, dont forget that.

Since the topic is "Who's your favourite guitarist," Kirk Hammett is very much an appropriate answer in this instace.

I do however agree that rating one guitarist over another is mostly pointless.
