No matter how sh*itty Metallica are now , Kirk Hammett will always be a great guitarist (not the greatest for sure).

I don´t find Hammett ****ty at all. I think he´s among the greatest actally. If Kirk is ****ty than Slash is shiitty too.

Kirk have lots solos that are famous and when I hear people who basiclly don´t know a crap about metal music hum One intro solo, well than you really made it as a guitarplayer.

He might not be the fastest one around but it´s sad that when talkin´ about virtouso players nowone mention his name. I find Kirk way faster than Van Halen and Randy Rhoads. Well, he maby play the same penta scale all over and over again but check Yngwie. All he does is to play 2-3 scales non stop (been playn´ that since he probably turned 17).

I'm not ready to waste more time on this subject ... Wether you like Hammett's playing or not , he influenced lots of others and he'll always be ranked as a great guitarist for his great work with metallica.

SCREW metallica anyway, I don't like them anymore !

Can you name few solos you don´t like. Nevermind Load and Reload, I don´t really count it as Metallica. They are pretty good albums though but it just isn´t Metallica for me. Metallica is from Kill Em All to (actally) Black Album to me. And during that era, I think all Kirk´s work is very good. Some solos from Justice For All like Shortest Straw and Dyers Eve are damn hard.

Funny thing Dream Theater did on they World Tourbulence was to play whole Master Of Puppets album. I don´t know why but they probably like Metallica and really like Master Of Puppets. And what´s funny about it is that it sound way better than the album. Not that album isn´t 100% corect, it´s just the sound. Dream Theater live sound is way better than the sound on Master Of Puppets album. Man, they must have they best sound in the world live.

Yeah, i have no idea why, but dream theater absolutely love Metallica, and when you do hear what they make out of master of puppets, it sounds amazing.

Petrucci doesn't even break a sweat playing kirts solos ;)

Petrucci doesn't even break a sweat playing his solos too , it's not that Kirk's solos are so easy. (easier than petrucci's for sure, but not easy in general)

Dosen´t of wolf and man start with a lot pull offs. I don´t do no bendings from the beggining when playn that song. First Kirk start messin with G-string 4p2p0 kind of licks and than he goes down cromaticly like 2p0-3p0-4p0...
Are you sure that it´s Of Wolf And Man solo you´re thinkin´ about.

I find The Unforgiven as a very good solo actally. Good melody and nice feelin´ all the way.

Master Of Puppets fast one is just fast. But I like that one too.

And at last I can´t belive that you find Creeping Death solo bad man. That one rocks and would be even cooler if he used alternate pickin´ at the end (the pull off part). He even sweeps here and there in that one. It´s a very simple sweep but cool ´cause Kirk ít´s not one of Kirks famous technique.

If I would decribe my opinion about solos on Met. albums,

Kill Em All (evry solo is a fast one but I don´t call it shred ´cause what he´s basiclly doin´ is playn´ penta scales up and down and using lot´s hammer on and pull offs combing with alternate pickin´. Some parts are shreddy and I find it as Kirk´s fastest work ever.

Ride The Lighting have lot cool solos. Shows nice alternate pickin´ here and there (Fight Fire With Fire solo intro). Midi file says that it´s 32-notes at 184 but nowone can really say what´s goin´ on there, Ride The Lighting is nice, Bells end is horibble though, Fade To Black very nice and you know my opinion about Creeping Death and Call Of Ktulu is amazing solo and pretty hard too. Those arps/sweeps are pretty cool.

Master Of Puppets, Battery solo is so so, however I like that short guitar fill after 1st chorus, very nice and melodic solos on Sanitarium, and than comes my fav. Kirk solo ever, Disposable Heroes, that one is GREAT especially when he goes down to half time feel, Orion, the first two are great too and the last one is so so and at last Damage Inc. is amazing solo.

Justice than. Cool alternate pickin´ lick on Blackned, cool end on ...And Justice For All solo, One solos are one of the famous solos ever, virtouso solos on Shortest Straw and Dyers eve.

And Black Album at last. Pretty slow solos actally, lots wah wah and lots solos have reached legendary status like Sandman, Sad But True, Unforgive, Roam and Nothing Else Matters (I know it´s actally James´ work). However Hoiler than thou is nice one as well as Don´t Tread On Me but my one of my fav. on this album would be Through The Never.

I´m happy too know lots Metallica solos ´cause they made my warm-up fun. I usualy play them along with some Maiden and Guns solos.

aiwass , as I can see you don't like Kirk's guitar playing cuz of your personal musical taste , and that's ok ...
I hate Malmsteen's music (most of it anyway) , but I can't speak shi*t about him as a guitarist cuz he's an awsome player.

BTW , yeah the singing in Dream of Puppets su*ks like hell !

I agree. James Lebries voice don´t fit at all for that kind of music.

Chromatics are best man. What a simple scale but yet at high speed can sound better than any other. Petrucci uses ´em frequently.

Also do you know that 4 string sweeping part from Beyond This Life solo. Would you call that atonal. I´m sure I would.

And that crazy speedy melody on Beyond This Life after (I think first chorus). That one is really wierd and death hard to play. Sounds VERY atonal to me. Even Petrucci said on Scenes From A Memory DVD that that melody is one of the hardest and most wicked guitar part of the record and show for that matter.

Who's my favourite guitarist? But of course the inimitable master-disciple-disciple trio...I mean Santana-Joe Satriani-Slash.

The once mighty G3:
Petrucci, Satriani and Vai.

I think they are some of the most creative and versatile guitar players ever.
