I'm a big fan of the Backyard Babies,The Hellacopters & Gluecifer.Don't know if you've ever heard of any of these bands but my question is how can I get the same guitar sound as any of these bands have.I know the guitarists for the Backyard Babies use a Gibsob ES335 & a Les Paul Custom. The almost have a heavy KISS(70s era) type sound.
I hope someone can help me here.
Thanx

thatz a bit difficult to tell because even if you have the same equipment and all, you do not necessarily sound like them, because especially on CD-recodings, there is alot of EQ work done on guitartracks, and you never know what amp/effect they use when recording in studio - so the sound is influenced by alot of things. you might get close ba just trying over and over and experimenting with sounds, but you´ll probably not get 100%.

And as for other guitarists like Jeff Beck for example´- you wont sound like them even if they invited you to try their original setup with their original guitars - its all in those dudes fingers. thatz what makes a guitarist a good guitarist. and if he knows exactly what a song needs to sound better without playing too much or too little, thats what makes a good guitarist a good musician.

i´ve had the VG88, but i gave it away again for it makes every guitar sound exaclty the same no matter if it was an expensive Gibson or a cheap Epiphone. its a big loss of individuality. it is good for commercial music here you have to sound like someone else and also for commercial studio recordings.. but not when you play yer own stuff IMO

i don't think so
if you can imitate van halen sound or the edge sound, and knopfler sound, you can build your own great sound, for sure.
it's mathematic and most of all logic.
i play live with my sound and they are great.
my vg88 is better preamp than the soldano that i had, and from all my boogie preamp.
but you have to dig and search..
individuality comes from your hand, not from the machine.
again it's my opinion and was answering about sound cover of the first post.
bye

Thanx.I'm not really wanting to sound exactly like those bands but I'm looking into more on the way they get that really heavy crunchy sound.I'm looking to get a really heavy crunchy distortion without all the feedback.Any ideas? I know alot of work goes into the studio albums with EQing & stuff.

Find a pedal or an amp that gives you the Distortion/Crunch charactar you like, then you can cancel excess feedback with a Noise Gate pedal.

Are you from Sweden cause all those band are from Sweden. Backyard Babies are only like 30 km. from where I live.

Dregen rocks but Hellcaopters are better.

Nope I'm from the US.I just went to a used cd shop & saw The Hellacopters "Payin The Dues" cd & Gluecifers "Tender Is THe Savage" cd & bought them on a whim & ended up loving those 2 cds. Then a friend of mine who is in Japan told me about the Backyard Babies & I listened to some samples I liked what I heard.I love that raw sound of they're music.

I just got back from a friends house & while their I played his Gibson ES 335 & thought it had such great sound & tone(he ran it to a Fender Hot Rod DLX amp). After he told me how much he payed for it I had to pick my jaw up from the ground.I searched the net for the least expensive ES335 but they're all way up there in price so I saw Epiphone had a ES335(the Dot) copy.I read reviews about it & the people all seem to say it's not that good to get.So my question is this-are there any hollow body electrics that are just as good as the ES335 but not as pricey?
