Better to buy a second guitar?

Hello I took the decision to start to learn with a nice electric guitar that I bought in second hand (Gibson les paule studio) from artisan shop of my city. I love it but sometimes cables and amplification are really annoying to carry around for the house. I'm wondering if I have to add an acoustic guitar to use it when I change room or travel around with the van to not carry the electric. What do you think?

At some point you are probably going to want an acoustic guitar anyway so I think that is a great idea. It does depend somewhat on your preference in music genre. If you are a heavy metal fan there isn't going to going to be much need for an acoustic but otherwise, yes.

Certainly the acoustic is going to provide the convenience you refer to. But there are music types and some songs that just lends itself to the acoustic. And certain techniques on the guitar, such as barre chords, are more difficult on the acoustic. Mastering it on the acoustic will make peforming them even easier on the electric.

If the budget allows you to get your acoustic I think you'll find owning one a wise investment.

You might want to look into remote (without cable connection) transmitter-receiver systems. One piece is plugged into the guitar, one into the amp... no cable.

But travel too far away from the amp, 20 - 50' in my experience, the systems won't solve your inconvience.

I understand the Martin x series guitars to be good value. Both the X1 and X2 guitars. But I am unqualified to make comparative statements to the sira or Taylor guitars. I know nothing about them.

As I said, you're probably going to want/need an acoustic at some point anyway. But let's not lose sight of your original issue, the "cable clutter". The wireless system that John of MT suggested is also a possible solution and probably more cost effective.

This is the fun virus to get, try to avoid the other one :)

I read your post with a chuckle fox. I don't think there is ever a "bad" excuse for new piece of kit, at least I haven't found one yet, I think the trick is knowing the "tolerable limits" of a significant other.

For instance, you could buy new strings, but why go to the bother when many strings come pre-equipped with a guitar! Think of the convenience and time savings!
