I read your post with a chuckle fox. I don't think there is ever a "bad" excuse for new piece of kit, at least I haven't found one yet, I think the trick is knowing the "tolerable limits" of a significant other.

For instance, you could buy new strings, but why go to the bother when many strings come pre-equipped with a guitar! Think of the convenience and time savings!
