Hi - just started the course and got a subscription. Was loving the flow till i got to the lesson on learning Walk Downtown.

The supporting notes which have the music notation with the music symbols, what exactly I am supposed to do with that? I am sure i did not miss a lesson which explains how to read the music sheet.

The lyrics I am ok with but will appreciate if someone can explain how do we read the music sheet. Bit suprised that has been uploaded without an explanation

Hi, I've only just started too.

I dont remember having any issues with the notaton though.

I have just gone back to see where "Walk Downtown" is and see if there is any Tab notation lesson before. And you're right there doesn't seem to be as far as I can tell.

I'm assuming you're referring to the notation below?

Top line being the music written out then the TAB notation below.

I do now remember Lisa explaining this... but cant find it in the lessons oddly.

I clearly remember her explaining how it may seem odd at first because the 6 lines represent the 6 strings but some people may think them upside down. The top line being high E and the bottom low E. It did confuse me at first. The numbers are then fret numbers for your fingers. So in the first line you put your index finger on the B sting in the first fret and play the highest 3 strings (G, B, E).

Have a look back at the lessons, its definitely in there somewhere.

Hope I've helped?

Cheers,

Dean

The Tablature (TAB) below the music notation is quite straight forward. This series of lessons from Chris has more detail on how to read it.

https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=16478&s_id=1218

Chris's lesson explains what the numbers stacked on top of each other means.

They put both types of notation up. Don't worry about the top one unless you really want a challenge 🙂. GT have lessons on reading musical notation but that's advanced stuff.

Just started today, on the simple chords why Lisa did not explain why they called simple chord? For example simple g7, simple E, etc why are they called like that?

They are called simple chords because you are able to play them with only one fretted note (except Am) and only the top three strings. In just a few more lessons Lisa will teach you the "full" open chords that use three fingers (except for Em) on 4, 5, or all 6 strings. The simple chords are a gentle introduction to give you the ability to start strumming songs right away.

You can definitely learn a lot just using the simple chords. You start to get a feel for how to apply the right pressure and angle on the strings, how to use your right hand to play just the strings you want, how to play in rhythm, how to train your right hand and left hand to work together. It's a nice way to ease into it and start having fun right away instead of trying to play songs with full chords before you are anywhere near capable of it.

Welcome, good luck, and have fun.
