Who is your favourite guitarist?

For me is David Gilmour. Perhaps he is not the best guitarist, but I love his solos and the way it sounds. He is the guitarist for which I started learning guitar.

Other guitarist I like is Joe Satriani, although he plays very fast and currently I don´t have the level to play his songs.

I don't really have a favorite, but lately I have been listening to Big Wreck - a lot - because I have been immersing myself in the guitar work of Ian Thornley

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

The reason I wanted to pick up a guitar is because of Carlos Santana.

He will forever remain, in my mind, one of the greatest guitarists ever. But after finally trying to learn guitar I have been exposed to so many great guitarists. And I probably would never had heard of them had I not finally try and learn. And I have largely been exposed to them because of conversaations like this.

Buddy Guy

T Bone Walker

Joe Bonamassa

Derek Trucks

Jeff Beck

All 3 Kings

Gary Moore

Peter Green

Debbie Davies

Hubert Sumlin

And, yes, David Gilmour

Many of the guitarists you have mentioned, I have never heard of... but I will and I hope to discover new sounds and a inspirational motive to continue playing guitar.

Thanks to all¡¡¡

Wow, just so many. Even if someone isn't on my faves list I enjoy listening to them and trying to learn a little something. Maybe they're all favourites, just a bit further down a gigantic list. But up at the top of my list:

Nuno Bettencourt

Joe Satriani

Steve Vai

Guthrie Govan

Steven Rothery

the Hawkins brothers (The Darkness)

Francis Dunnery

Neil Schon

Reb Beach

Marty Friedman

Paul Gilbert

Steven Wilson

Steve Lukather

There's loads more. Basically, anyone that's better than me Ć°ÅøĖœā€ž

All great nominations here and plenty of variety.

The standout for me is Peter Green. His licks are not fast or difficult but he can get the sweetest melody from a handful of notes. Need your love so bad is a great example.

I could say the same about BB but I enjoy Peter Greens melodies much more.

Cheers

Stephen J

A couple of you have mentioned Joe Bonamassa, I'm going to see him one month from today on the Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea cruise . Eat your heart out, my friends!

Along with Buddy Guy, Tab Benoit, Mike Zito, Doyle Bramhall II, Paul Thorn, tommy Emmanuel, Josh Smith, Cristone "Kingfish" Ingram, and lots more. Too many to list or even to see all of them during the time on the ship. You can see the list at the link.

@stevelankford313, I was first exposed to Markus King on this cruise.

The topic is favourite rather than famous, so with that in mind, here are two of mine.

Both role models for me, inspiration for the soul and aspiration for the mind in setting clear personal direction and objectives.

I have to agree with Jeff Beck. If you are not familiar with his work watch "Jeff Beck live at Ronnie Scotts". You can probably still find a copy on the internet, but you might have to do a little searching to find a cop y that hasn't been pulled for copyright reasons. Keep looking, or go buy a copy.

The man is the best master of tone I know of. Nobody since the sixties has made a guitar howl and sing across a broader pallette than Jeff Beck. Watch how he changes tone from note to note, mid phrase, again, and again. Nobody has that broad a command of the nuances of electric guitar. Utterly stunning! (Be prepaired to come to the same realization that I did.... That being, I will never come any closer to this virtuistic giant than I will to jumping out the window and flying sans aircraft)

I am also impressed that he didn't just coast on his Yardbirds fame. He has consistantly developed the depth of his skill year after year, until now that Yardbird stuff is barely present in his current performances. Not that it isn't still good material, it is that he has evolved beyond that stuff. THE MAN IS A GENIUS AND AN ABSOLUTE FRETBOARD WIZARD!

Captcha is a total pain in the........
