Help!
Help me pick a new amp
Arggg Marshall MG50DFX or the AVT50! I play rock, metal and some mellow stuff. I don't want an all-valve amp so it's down to those two.

Yeah i've heard good things about them too. I'm a little afraid of getting into tubes though. I guess ONE tube won't be much of a hassel.

Tubes aren't a hassle at all in my opinion. Never had any problems with them.
Personally I would actually try to find one of the older VS100 Marshalls, second hand of course.

Just curious, what's the difference in the old valvestates and the new AVT's?
And is this a one of the old ones, if so is it a good deal?

Well, I'm not sure what the difference is really. Though the higher models of the AVT's have effects which the old Valvestate's didn't.
And yeah, that amp is one of the old models. The VS65 is pretty nice, but if you can, try checking out a VS100 at a shop. These seem to be pretty easy to find second hand.(not to mention cheap)
Btw, that's a horrible price for the VS65, I think I paid 400$ for my VS100(new) a couple of years ago. Marshall is more expensive in the U.S. though, so that might be the deal with that high price.

Right! I have a friend in the UK and prices on Marshall's are great over there. I'll see if I can check out a used VS100 at a pawn shop. Thanks! That helps a lot!
As for why I don't want all-tube... a bit expensive and all those tubes look like a lot of trouble to me. lol

You have to try the New Vox ValveTronix!!!!!!!!!!! Great amp! Right now i have an older Line 6 Axsys212 upgraded to AX2 specs. It's an ok Amp but it is huge and very heavy, so I went around today looking for something smaller, but still had a big sound and was as versitle as my line 6. I played the Peavey Transformer(i think it's called) which was cool, but kind weak. I also played a flextone w/ one 12" which was good, but line 6's to me seem to loose there balls when they are turned up, plus it doesn't really act like a tube amp which the digital amps are designed to do. They would make excellent recording amps. Then I played the Vox AD60VT. By far the best digital modeling amp I've ever played. The only one I havent played is the Johnson. The Valvetronix has a digital pre-amp, but the power amp section uses two 12AX7(?), preamp tubes, w/ a transformer after them that doesn't effect the sound AT ALL. This thing plays Just like a tube AMP! IT acts like one, it responds like one, it's amazing. It has that tube amp power that most solid states lack, and it will keep up with probably any 60 watt tube amp. The best part is it is lightweight, and it has the Korg ToneWorks built into it. I would put it just above that new fender cyber twin, which also sounds great, but is a pain in the ass to use. I would recommend trying that amp before you bought the marshall. The valvestates are good, don't get me wrong. It's just that the Vox can do the Valvestate plus about 16 other amps perfectly. I'm buying one. That bad part however is, these baby's are going for like $650 for the 60 watter. It's worth every penny however.
