Hi, this is my first post and forgive me if this isn´t the right place on the forum to place this thread.
I've been playing guitar for almost 2 years, and i'm starting to get interested in all the theory, so i was figuring out this song Fade to black, and i think the key is A minor. So i tried looking in all the tricks about the song but none say which key it's on. So please, can some one confirm this? It's very important actually to my self esteem as a guitar player.
Thanks in advance,
Martin

I think it starts out in E minor. And then there's the part in A minor with the acoustic guitar.

Once it goes into the acoustic verse riff is when it goes into A minor.
Rock and roll ain't noise pollution, but it can get pretty crappy these days.

Hmmm, I think intro goes in B (solo) and than it goes over to A when acoustic guitar enters. Than the bridge between verses get back to E, bridge to solo also goes in E and end solo goes in B.

I like that solo, actually both of them are nice but the last one is good. Typical Hammett do, lot of penta liks and those 15p12 and than 12 on B string licks wich he uses pretty often. Me and my band played this song a lot before. We actually played a lot of Metallica like 4 Horsemen, Seek N´ Destroy, Fight Fire..., Bells, Fade, Creeping Death, Battery, Master, Sanitarium, D. Heroes, Orion, Blackned, Justice, One... and almost whole Black Album except 5 last ones.

And the best solo by mr. Hammett (my and Slash´s opinion too actaully) is solo in Disposable Heroes. That one is amazing especially those breaks.

the song is in Am. but i think the solo is in Bm. kirk hammett usually plays his scales in triplets. try playing the scales in 3's. then the arpeggios based on different triads of the Bm family. if you're trying to improvise, this a good start but if you want to play the song as it is, just get a tab and study it. hope i helped..... happy playing

I´ve only been playing guitar for 9 monthes, but i´ve played piano for 7 years. And the key for a song depends on the inventoey of keys in the entire song.

Exe: a song goes through the following chords... Ab, C, Eb, and Bb. This song must be in the key of A flat.

So do you want to know the key of the song, or of a part of the song?
