When your practicing dont make mistakes, if you do start again. It puts you in the right way of thinking. At least it does for me. And get lessons if you can.

What type of music are you into?

Learn the basics.

Chords are the best place to start. They will give you strengh in your hands. Learn to play with a metronome at first. Being able to play in tempo is a necessary asset.

Alos practice your ear. Listen to songs, isolate a note and try to find it on your fretboard. Or just hum a note and try to find it.

Scales can be useful but I don't recommend them if you're just starting out. Learn the chords first.

Learning songs is a must to give you motivation. Try to get the tabs for a song you really like. See the links section you should find some good tabs sites there.

Learn the different types of notes (whole notes, etc) and time signatures, also the note names in first position, then move on and learn the notes up the neck.
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

Depends on who your (as far as stripes fattening or what not).

I reccomend that you get lessons, and that's about all I have to say about that.

okay, if you're serious about satch speeding, then you have to start with left hand only, dont bother trying to pick the notes just yet - listen to satriani, he has some of the easiest whips around, at least most of the time, well you nkbow what I mean...but get good at 3 notes per string sweeping pattersn first and foremost - just pick the fret randomly, listen along to the song, find your way back to the key - find the modes for any fret position...just go by ear, you must get off the ground with your ear or else you will go nowhere...it's quite easy - just find your way, trial and error until you are playing one mode up and down 3 notes per string and go all the way up, all the way down, then on two and three strings just go up down etc

try tapping also - try tapping with 4 fingers on your left hand and 3-4 with your right on top of that, at the same time...its very simple just repeat it a million times and as with everything else you're a super-master ;)

seriously...just get a thythm going with the notes, also try that with 4 fingers on one sring, the with any random spaing for fingers, gaps etc...and try maybe some other slight variation, keep all them in the same modal arrangement, and keep 3 per string to start out - just go for up and down and speed and it really doesn't take much except just performing the movement, over and over, and suddenly its like "hey" I can do this also now, hmm that's so easy too...blah blah...and it is easy...but you have to be there hitting it out with the random hit-and-miss voyage through the rough...it never ever ends...to the guy that plays at light speed (the best players), it's not nearly fast enough...so they realize they really can't play sh!t, but everyone else thinks they are the greatest...

As long as you don?t give up you will probably get there eventually !
Make your goals realistic and don?t pay too much attention to any one else.
