My question is basic. What is the best way to proceed in Guitar Tricks. I have completed Level 1 & 2 Fundamentals. Do I keep moving up the ladder to Blues, Country & Rock level 1 then 2? When do you recommend styles and songs? Thanks Charlie

That's what I did. Moved onto Blues 1. Now on Blues 2. Doing songs as well.

Thanks for the response. Blues songs or songs of you preference? Just trying to get an idea what others might do that works? I started GT in August 2016.

I just chose some random songs I like. I use the Ultimate Guitar guitar tab app for the ipad as well as GT for songs. I learn a mixture of easy to play chord songs and some that are more challenging to me. I start and end each session on easy songs and do more challenging practice in between. :-)

I thought there'd be additional responses to this question!!! I too just completed the 2nd level of guitar fundamentals and "assumed" my next step would be to proceed to the category of interest. By that I mean, country music fans would proceed to country level 1, rock fans to rock level 1, etc. Am I wrong......should my next step be to the blues as suggested above??

After the fundamentals, you go into whichever genre (bliues, rock, or country) that appeals to you the most. They cover similar terrirory, they just cover it in the context of the genre. They will also teach you the basic soloing vocaubulary for that genre.

Personally I went into blues. I then went back and picked out some things from the rock course.

And songs! Pick whichever songs interest you. They don't have to fit into whatever genre you are learning. While going through blues, I learned a bunch of classic rock songs.

The Mighty Maggior is correct.

After guitarists have finished Fundamentals 1 and 2, you are free to choose the style of your choice, I mean, that's definitely preferable!

Yup, I agree. Choose which way you feel that you will have the most enjoyment. I chose Blues. During Blues I first picked songs that would not overwhelm me. Then I gradually picked songs that were harder but pertained to the Blues just to learn how the masters play. Now I am picking any kind of song that I used to listen to back in the day and always wanted to play. You will be surprised what songs are doable even during your beginning phase.

One final thing- I suggest that you pick songs that you are very familiar with. This way you know how it's suppose to sound. It makes it easier for your ear in the beginning.

One more "final" thing- As soon as you go through parts of the song and you listen and mimic the instructor, try to play that portion with the soundtrack. This is the best way to learn how music works because you are forced to play in time. Have fun. I know I am.
