Hi, I am a beginner but am reasonably competant at playing most open chords so can play along with my Country music. But I wish to add the walk up etc and the occasional solo, Struggling at the moment to change between the strum and picking. Is their anything on GuitarTricks that I have missed.

Thanks Paul

Hey, Paul! If you haven't already worked through them, then you might enjoy Guitar Fundamentals 1&2.

If you are already beyond all that, then I encourage you to try Country Style 1 or 2! Anders does a great job of explaining the style from the ground up. And he includes several tutorials on walking bass lines & solos with lots of examples & play along tracks.

It sounds like you need to work on single note picking. These tutorials are aimed specifically at alternating between single note picking & chord strumming in a way that helps you connect the chords.

Personally I found Chris' series "Learning Blues Licks" very helpful in this area. I always strugled transitioning from chord to single notes (and the other way even more) and working throught that seires especially the first 6 lessons was very helpful. While the licks may not be exactly in the style you play the exercises on going from rhythm playing to adding a few fills to adding licks helped me a lot with being able to trassition between the two styles easily.

hi all, many thanks for your replies. Think I will go through the country style 1 & 2 as suggested, I did the fundamentals before I made an attempt at the songs. so proberbly wont try that at the moment.

Thanks to you all for your advise, and

hi all ,many thanks for the advise, I will follow up on all that you have said.

Will start on the country style series, which I did start but stopped because I felt I wasnt using what I was learning. Decided to go to songs and learn on the job, but it is showing flaws in my skills.

Anyway thanks again for your help
Regards Paul
