I need everyone to chime in here. I have a great electric guitar in my Keith Urban Night Star which is excellent to me because it has a low action and yet no fret buzz at all. Currently have DaDarrio 10 46 gauge strings on it. If you had at most, $300.00 to spend on an acoustic guitar, which would you recommend with a proviso. It must have a relatively low action. If you bought an acoustic and took it to GC or somewhere and had the action lowered, that's ok also. What do you recommend? I am looking for something that I can play around the camp fire and usually I tent camp. There is no electric. Thanks

For that price, I'd say go with one of the low end Fender or Ibanez acoustics. They're not great but, decent value for around $300.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Yamaha Acoustics under $300 are a very good choice.

I would look at Epiphone acoustic electric guitars. I purchaced a Hummingbird Pro which had been on display and had a small nick in it and got it for $275.00. For a new one they are available everywhere for $329.00.
Epiphone has improved their acoustic guitars a bunch over the last 3 years or so. They are built in Asia but setup here in the US. Mine was setup perfectly and is easy to play and sounds very good. Really hard to tell much difference between my Taylor 214ce and my Hummingbird . Sounds great plugged in. The Taylor sells for $999.00. It is a little better quality but not 3 times as good. It is very nice if one can afford one as a beginner. I have had it for several years. Had it setup with new Elixer strings 12-53 polywebs a few months ago.

If you're willing to look at used guitars, anything by Seagull in the last 10 years will get you a GREAT guitar for under $300. Expect to pay $250 - $275 for one in great shape and with a gig bag if not a hard case thrown in for the price. Low action, great intonation, nice rich sound with ringing highs but not strident. Great guitars all around. The S6 original is excellent, but check out the others, some with cutouts. For an extra $100 bucks or less you can get electronics built in. Great guitars built with sustainable woods, great tone and feel. Check some out at a local store (most carry at least one and Guitar Center usually carries a variety of used and new ones to try out).
Happy playing from a happy Seagull (used) owner!
