If you're willing to look at used guitars, anything by Seagull in the last 10 years will get you a GREAT guitar for under $300. Expect to pay $250 - $275 for one in great shape and with a gig bag if not a hard case thrown in for the price. Low action, great intonation, nice rich sound with ringing highs but not strident. Great guitars all around. The S6 original is excellent, but check out the others, some with cutouts. For an extra $100 bucks or less you can get electronics built in. Great guitars built with sustainable woods, great tone and feel. Check some out at a local store (most carry at least one and Guitar Center usually carries a variety of used and new ones to try out).
Happy playing from a happy Seagull (used) owner!
