I'm left handed, will this be a problem in regards to the lessons? and I was thinking of a 3/4 size, I assume they would be perhaps easier to use?? Now the only time I have held a guitar was when I was handing it to someone :o)
newbie left handed question
Hello, I'm very interested in learning the guitar and from my research Guitar tricks seems to be the best way to start. I haven't purchased the membership yet nor a guitar.
I'm left handed, will this be a problem in regards to the lessons? and I was thinking of a 3/4 size, I assume they would be perhaps easier to use?? Now the only time I have held a guitar was when I was handing it to someone :o)

Hi Pault3,
Being left handed doesn't pose any problem as far as I know. I'm a lefty myself and haven't had any difficulties with learning guitar on GT. It actually made it easier for me to learn from right-handed people since I can instantly mirror it.
Anyway, check out this topic where I and a lot of other people answered the same question: https://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38434&highlight=left+handed
Kind regards,
JJ

thank you JJ ;o) I just joined guitar tricks so my journey begins, well it begins tomorrow when I buy a guitar. I found today that being a lefty leaves you poor choice in guitars. The shop I went to only had three left handed acoustics and they were all quite expensive but really nice guitars.
Well if I'm forced to invest a bit of money into the instrument itself, it should give me more incentive to keep at it..... I hope.. :o)

I'm left handed too but I'm still learning to play/playing guitar right handed.
There is so much to learn for both hands and I'm feeling more comfortable fretting the notes/chords with the left hand.

Lol I played right handed for like 10 years then got injured and had to switch to lefty
As long as you have a good guitar teacher you wont have any problems, but thats kinda the most important part of this instrument, dont try to teach yourself :)

That's really interesting. How long did it take you to make the switch? Did it eventually "feel right?"

Welcome....I am left handed and have no issues going through Course 1 so far. I tried to learn right handed with private lessons and just hit a wall very early on. It was so frustrating that I gave up for almost 20 years.
It wasn't until I found a left hand guitar kit online for under $140 and figured at that price it was worth a shot to try again. Even with my el cheapo and Lisa's wonderful teaching, I'm light years ahead of where I was playing right handed and I just started.
If I'm allowed to say so you may want to check out ESP Guitars and their LTD line, they have some nice guitars for us backwards people. I just picked up the LTD TL-6 Electric Acoustic.

I'm a pure Lefty. Everything is lefty.
Took lessons 45 years ago...never got that far - yes I learned the chords well but my rhythm and strumming were never really that exciting...
So i gave up.
Now deciding to try again at 59 years old - I went for a lefty guitar to give myself a real shot at learning to play.
Think about it...rightys play right handed...leftys should play left handed.
They talk about clapping and the dominant hand should be the strumming hand cause that holds the beat...
Picked up a new semi hollow electric Ibanez AM93L for $600 from a major online shop...there were a few choices in the under $700 price range.
Waiting for delivery as they were OOS...but the guitar is available elsewhere.
Most on-line sellers have 30 day exchange policy so give it a try.
