Vexatious ..as all tone is subjective..my ha'penny's worth is The Seymour Duncan Seth Lover.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/SDToneWizard/hummer.htm

My *current* favourite ,sounds like a late 50's "PAF" to me, If SD is working to Seth's specs you won't get much closer..although Gibson have the new "Burstbucker",but i find that too hyped a concept.

If you can get to play some CS Gibsons (?) you'll get an idea of the tone, although the scale and wood of the Tele will alter this somewhat.
Accuracy,you say? hmm interesting concept..

Thanks for the help. One question though, why do you say the wood will alter the tone, and how?The scale I think I understand.

Different woods have different characteristics in how they resonate, and, are perceived differently by the ear -ie, An Alder bodied strat with the same pickup as a Mahogany bodied gibson will *usually* sound brighter.

See here for some details.

Some people notice these differences more than others.Yours has a mahogany body,so I would expect it to sound somewhere between a Tele and an SG,but this is supposition.
Good Luck in your tone quest.

Ok, i'll try -string spacing refers to the fact that the bridge saddles spacing and nut width are different on Fender and Gibson (type) guitars therefore the distance apart the strings are is different.

To try and clarify, a fender has a longer scale and a narrower nut so imagine the strings pointing inwards at an angle -the further you go from the bridge to the nut the narrower the string spacing.

The Telecaster neck pickup is less wide than a standard Gibson neck pickup. The (important*) thing to remember is to get the measurement right so that the poll peices of the pickup sit as "squarely" as possible below the appropriate string (poll spacing).

[*Just to confuse things a lot of genuine Fender pickups all have the same poll spacing, but I don't agree with that concept.]
