I just started Guitar tricks Sunday before last, and am really enjoying the guided tutorials. I've tried teaching myself from books, and using the popular, but trumped-up in my opinion, Rocksmith for the PS3, and become disinterested in the past, because there is not structure in place to guide practice or learning - pretty much just a free-for-all. With guitartricks I feel like I'm learning and always have a next step to take without having to know through some sort of omniscience what that next step is. I still can learn a song when I want to get away from mechanics and fundamentals, so it hasn't gotten boring so far. Two months, give or take, is as long as I've been able to try learning in the past, but I think I'll be able to stick with it this time.
On Day 11 and making progress!!!

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. It's so easy to quit playing guitar when you are struggling on your own in the beginning. I was like that the first couple of years where I would not know what to work on next and ended up not playing for weeks or months at a time.
I like the structure on the lessons here and I also like that there are a lot of song lessons that interest me.
Another cool thing I got from here - I've stolen some cool riffs from some lessons from Neil Walter and Anders Mouridsen and then added/changed them a little and wrote some songs that my brother-in-law (bass) and son (drums) can jam to!

That's awesome mglaide that you were able to write some music using things you've learned here!
@tbuchalski, there's a great variety of tools here. You have an ordered program with the fundamentals and genre paths (rock/blues/country). And as you said, you can go off and learn some songs.
The key for me was being able to play a song. Way back as a kid, I tried using a Mel Bay book. I lost interest quickly. A friend of mine showed me some easy chords and a song to play with them. Once I could do that, I was hooked and on my way!
Rocksmith may become another tool for you to use. I've heard of people having fun with it, though it's probably not good as your primary learning tool.
Keep us in the forums posted on your progress and if we can help with anything!

@tbuchalski I have the same experience as you my friend. Want to learn my whole life guitar and this year one of my goal was to accomplish this. So I begin reading books, using Rocksmith but lost interest very quickly as I struggle to learn my myself without any learning curve or structure.
I found this site searching the internet and on 6 days I play a song already (Jingle Bells) not even in 6 months I accomplish this goal. Now again I have the confidence to continue and the most important is that I feel motivated again.
My idea was to try only for a month....now my idea is to pay for the full year subscription. I would highly recommend this site to everyone who really wants to learn.

I guess I've been lucky, because I was never able to take a week or a month off. Not even a day. And yeah a lot of things were frustrating in the beginning, but that just made me practice longer, sometimes to the point where I would have trouble sleeping afterwards lol. I guess I'm just obsessed haha
