I often wish there were song suggestions at the end of the tutorials so I can apply whatever skill I'm learning at the time. After reading numerous threads, I see that this is a common wish for a lot of us out there. I don't think every lesson needs a song list but it would be nice at the end of some of the tutorials. It would make it more interesting and fun to be able to apply the new skill(s) to more songs. I would be more inclined to develop my skills better before moving on.

p.s. not only a song suggestion list but links to additional exercises would be great also.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a great idea and we've considered doing this too. Sounds like there's a strong vote for it.

I totally agree. To successfully implement anything learned it requires to be applied with something relevant ASAP. Otherwise the theory will stay just as information in our brains without application, thus useless.

Spaced repetition while surrounding yourself with positive like-minded people focused on the same goal to maximize results!

I totally agree. I just put a ton of work into completing Lisa McCormicks finger picking lessons - and now i have no place to go with it. not even one of the songs on the entire list uses a finger picking style like hers. so now I am left with playing the practice songs which are like 300 years old with lyrics that don't make sense in today's times. There should be modern songs to apply the techniqe to or at the very least a list of suggested songs.

+1 - I'm learning the finger picking style, and after completing a lesson, it's like I've been abandoned. Where do I go from here????? It makes so much sense to haves links to lessons to follow AND songs to use the pattern with, and please not the row row yer boat type songs. I refuse to even look at those things. The lady who does the basic finger picking lesson says she has years of experience, and I certainly believe her, but not that I can see in follow up lessons. I can get these type of single lessons on u-tube.
Excuse me for venting, but this is a paid teaching website and I for one expect more.

This is really good feedback.

Lisa has a great series of fingerpicking tutorials, it sounds like one of you has completed them all and the other hasn't so here is a link in case I understand that correctly:

We hadn't thought about the wide variety of fingerpicking styles and how to map them to the songs. It is tricky because we can't just do every song we want to do, we have to get licenses.

But I think this is a really good idea and would like to see what we can figure out in the future.

I understand your point. But, in my opinion, these lessons are about giving you the tools to play. There are a million songs that you could listen to and come up with your own versions/listen and figure out with the tools you possess. There are many "strum type" songs on this website where you could take the chords and fingerpick the songs with the techniques you have learned. That's what most great finger pickers did. They learned techniques and adapted their skills and came up with their own arrangements of songs. JMTC

I agree with seven7! and i have posted many similar comments with no luck. we spend all that time taking the finger picking lessons and there are no modern songs to try it out. I am tired of singing about sailors and I certainly wouldn't want to try one of those songs for friends.
While the other girl suggested 'all great' finger pickers figured out their own songs to finger pick, we are NOT great finger pickers, and um, that's why we are taking lessons! I actually have tried to finger pick some of the strumming songs and it doesn't work so i need some help. Even just ending the tutorials with just ONE sample song to practice that isn't 300 years old would help.

Jon,
We understand the licensing issue. However, this should not preclude the instructor from listing a few appropriate songs and, if necessary, point out where the song material (i.e. Tabs, music) can be obtained. I believe most of us would be more than willing to spend a little money elsewhere to get what we want. My 2 cents.
