Hi,

Just joined your site and took advantage of the special full year pricing. Really excited to get thru the lessons and learn how to play the guitar. I'm in my mid 40's with zero guitar knowledge/experience. I have some piano experience from my childhood days but that's it :-)

Recently bought a Yamaha F355 acoustic guitar from GC last December and just recently purchased a Fender Squier electric guitar. I have a very experienced guitar friend who wanted me to buy a Fender American Standard ($800) but I don't think I'm ready for that yet :-) I think for now the Squier should be fine (he's still ragging me about the Squier but hey, I'm just a newbie).

Anyways, your site looks awesome with lots of instructors and really excited to start playing my guitars :-)

cheers!

QB

Welcome. I'm in the same boat as you however I didn't need to buy anything. I took my kids guitar out of the closet and decided to put it to use. We bought them a couple of Austin AA30-D's a couple years ago and they stopped their interest after only 6 months. I decided what the heck I need a hobby. Slowly learning my chords, practicing my changes from one to the next is slow, and picking through Jingle Bells at the moment. But it's all good.

Hey QB welcome to GT..
I heard good stuff about the Squier these days. I think your making the right decision.. You'll get GAS soon enough with out any pushing.. I thiink it helps if you have knowledge of guitar and guitar music when you go to up grade. You sound taste and style of guitar may change as you get better. I looked through a couple dozen reviews about Squire and saw only 3 reviews that were less then 5 star.. Those 3 were 4 star..
Also try as many guitars as you can..
Good Luck learning guitar..

Hi, thanks to all who responded to my post :-)

a. Donovan, that was really funny... My daughter actually had an old guitar but she grew tired of it soon so she gave it a friend of hers. I bought a new guitar but she ended up giving me her old guitar stand so at least I got something ;-)

b. Lisa, this Website is amazing!! I am so glad I joined up for full access. I can't believe how the lessons are so well made. I've been doing the beginner track with Chris S. and with high definition turned on, the videos are all crystal clear. I actually just finished a lesson from him on C major scales and I've learned a lot in a short period of time. Chris is amazing!!!

c. compart1, I took the Squier to my friend so he can critique it and he said it's well made and he can't find any flaws with it. I actually bought the guitar package at Guitar Center for $249.99 (less $30 for 15% off sale) and it came with everything: Squier electric guitar, Fender amp, strap, Fender guitar case, small tuner and assorted picks. So I think it was a good deal.

I bought the electric guitar so I can practice doing bends, hammer ons and pull ons which are easier to do on the electric but really I'm using the Yamaha acoustic guitar as my main guitar as I just love playing with an acoustic.

Anyways, thanks again for all the welcome posts and hope we get to exchange tips and ideas as we continue learning. I'm so glad I joined GuitarTricks. This site is awesome!

Rock On! :-)
