I just turned 50, always wanted to learn to play the guitar. So I bought myself an electric, and started over at Jam Play, didn't like it, moved onto private lessons, didn't like it, moved to this site and like it.

Jam Play's lessons are way to long for a true beginner. My private teacher acted like I've been playing for years. I like the speed of the lessons and the way they are put together.

Thank you for making a site like this.

Welcome and even though I'm not a full access member yet, I must say I find your statement about Jamplay VERY TRUE!

The thing is, I searched for a long time around the internet, and in terms of reviews you see Jamplay score better than Guitartricks. Tried it out for half a year and wasn't satisfied. There are some cool features like the webcam sessions ( perhaps that will happen in the future with Guitartricks ) but there were loads of needless features, like community thing building. But that shouldn't matter as long as the lessons are great.

I found their lessons very differing in quality. There were some great instructors there but also a lot of instructors who did uuuhm and just talked through there lessons way too slow. Here at Guitartricks the instructors, so far as I discovered, are really able to teach. Also I find the layout of Guitartricks much more appealing.

Just wanted to share my thoughts ;-)

Actually I am in a lesson right now and quite enjoying it. I am also in this forum because it helps me to have an advance learning.

Glad you found a home here at Guitar Tricks and sorry about your private teacher. It's hard to find a teacher who will work around a student's needs sometimes - This site is very responsive to others needs and what they want to get out of their lessons.

All the best,

The site really is helpful, for guitar beginners or professionals. I still learn some key points and tips on how to play broken chords.
I wish they'd had electric guitars in cotton fields back in the good old days. A whole lot of things would've been straightened out. - Jimi Hendrix

Hey everybody! I just came on board here and I must say THIS IS AWSOME! I love reading all the cool threads about gear and all the input to all the comments. I could lose my job for wanting to stay home all day and just hanging around (after my lessons of course). I wish I had had somwhere like this to go to when I 1st was interested in playing guitar at the age of around 12 or so. I learned a few cords and could kinda play rythym on some stuff but just didn't know how to advance. Well that was in the 80's so I was just outta luck. I'm now 39 and saw this guy on youtube Kent Carlevi and was so inspired by his playing that I just had to try again. So being shy and not wanting to go to someone for lessons I done a search and stumbled on this place. Done some review searches and decided from there this was the place to be. I like all kinds of music from bluerass to rock. I still have my first guitar, an old Sigma Martin flat top that my dad bought new for me and a Blueridge BR70 flat top that I bought a few years ago just because I liked the sound of it. I also have a 1969 Fender Telecaster that belonged to my dad. Anyway just wanted to say hi and I know there are some awsome people here just from reading the posts. I recently ordered a squire j5 Tele and should get it this week. I also am wanting a fender mustang IV to use in place of my dads fender bassman amp because of the bulk and its so heavy to move around. So if anybody has this combo, let me know how you like it.

Yes! i was to taking lessons for 2 years and never progressed plus way to exspesive. I got discourged and put my guitar away for about a year and half and tried lessons again thinking i would have pregressed in my playing, but relised again i wasn't. So I found this site 2 years ago and progressed a lot, and bought myself some new line six gear and already am happy. My family can see that I have found my glitch in guitar playing that is teaching your self, and for others as well might be a better move if you just want to pick it up and just play songs. That's all I wanted to be able to do. Thanks again guitar tricks for this site I to sign up with Jam'n play and relised I made a mistake and switched back. i think they just have a lot of wanne be guitarist on their that never made that far and they feel more comfortable in front of a camera teaching. Thanks again keep up the good work. :)

I agree Guitartricks is a superior site. They offer a better variety of songs to learn. I have requested that this site add jam tracks for the songs that they teach and Neil has said that they are working on that feature. Once they add this, Guitartricks will blow all sites out of the water.
