Hey folks since I started playing almost 7 months ago I've come to realize that guitar picks never seem to suit me much . I've never gotten good clarity with guitar picks and have only made awful sounds when trying to pick with a light pick or medium pick .

I was wondering if i should just stick with good ole finger picking because I like the sound and have better control or would a thumb pick would be a good middle ground for between guitar picking and finger picking .

Bear in mind I've never used a thumb pick so any advice on that would be great and what are some good ones to get as I plan on buying some later today

My advice would be that you keep at it. Just like the F chord it will come with time. I had the same problem but now I feel useless without a pick even though I can finger pick fairly well.
Hope this is of some help.

Fingerpicking is a beast in of itself, and one I am very fond of to be honest. It really depends on what you want to play. If shredding is something you ever want to do then you must learn to pick. I would try a bigger pick like maybe a 3.0 mm or something really fat like that. While they are blunt picks they are also tapered at the end allowing you to virtually slide from string to string without getting the pick stuck. How tight you hold the pick may also be an issue. If you can hear the sound of the pick exclusively try holding it tighter and closer to the tip of it so that less of the pick is exposed.
God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

Depends on what kind of music you are playing. By the way, what kind of music are you playing? :p If its mostly chords, you can get by without a pick. If its fast solos, you can't really finger pick that. If you are looking for a smaller/faster pick I'd recommend Dunlop Jazz iii's. I use the black tortex ones, 1.14 mm. Good, small, hard pick that lets you fly across the strings. Again though, depends on the music.
