Yes sir I know very well you two guys do not get paid here. I only started this topic with your two names because after reading many of your post I thought HEY here are two rednecks that seem pretty cool. They seem to know their stuff so why not ask a simple question? I knew one of the two had played this song and lord behold it was true. Anyway all the other post outside the topic is just me talking to you two. No way was it ment to harm anyone.

Well I found that Terry Couch use to have a lot of eagles lesson's here back in 2005. Was googling and found this old page from here: http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-15722.html

I see they still list him as an instructor but he only has 6 country styles to offer and there is no "Ask Terry Couch" board to talk to him.

I don't believe in the 1-3/4 years that I've been here I've ever seen him or any "Ask" info for him either.

Sixpick,

I tried your cords but they do not sound right to me or with the backing track. All the song sheets I have found show just using the G, Gmaj7, C, Am, D and Dc note. There's an A & Em in there for the chorus part. I have the strumming almost down pat but need to work on the flip with the chorus.

Hey Crossbow,
I don't know why they wouldn't sound right, unless the backing track doesn't cover the intro. The chord I was talking about works with the little lead intro of the song, and also the verses. The G7 chord to me doesn't fit, which is why when I learned the song at least 20 years ago I found the other chord fit better.

Keep in mind, that what you find that someone contributed on these sites, is seldom accurate. I'm almost sure that it has been altered, and the backing track also to keep from getting into trouble with copyrights. If they are not officially licensed I would not trust the source. You can do what you want, but I was under the impression you really wanted to learn to play the song. I only gave you the intro, and that's how I still play and sing it most every time I perform.

I see they still list him as an instructor but he only has 6 country styles to offer and there is no "Ask Terry Couch" board to talk to him.

Terry is a friend of mine, and he actually persuaded me to submit my first lessons on here. This was back when we were posting mp3s, and text tab. I wish he would have but Terry didn't make the switch when we started doing video. He's a great player, and you could probably learn from the lesson with just an mp3.

I was only trying to help, and I wish it would have worked out for you. One other thing, I'm familiar with Rick and Razbo from here on the boards. I get a big kick out of them, but Rick posted this earlier.

I personally wouldn't ask one of the country guys anything about thrash metal but... You get my point.

Rick, I took a little offense to that, as I don't limit myself to just country. Don't let the cowboy hat fool you, I know how to rock too. I'm known on here for my country and bluegrass, but that doesn't mean I don't have knowledge of Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, and hundreds of others you wouldn't think an old country picker would listen to. My Dad always said don't judge a book by the cover, and now I pass this advice on to you. I know you mean't no offense, but I wanted you to know that I'm more than just country.

I think what Rick was trying to say is that you should look in the more logical place first before moving your search into different areas; generally speaking people wouldn't expect country-guitar instructors with trash metal-knowledge

I was also surprised to hear that one of my classical-guitar instructors used to play in the biggest deathmetal band of our country, so naturally at first I visited the rock-guitar instructors for advice on rock

to me that's not judging a book by it's cover, but just taking the more logical route to getting an answer, and I'd like to note that right now I feel like a complete wise-ass and will leave this post and take a shower :D

So, anyway, as it happened, my only Eagles is on vinyl (remember that?). Never had the heart to get rid of it, but my turntable bit the dust long, long ago.

If it is any interest to you, I have the song book for The Long Run album. I doubt it's illegal to just let you know what chords are used in a song, right? It's a Warner Bros publication from 1980. Sometimes even books substitute chords, but this one looks all official-like.

Let me know.

Sixpick,

I am sure its me not hitting the cords correct. I am still tinkering with this so don't give up hope on me. As for Terry being MIA it would be nice if he would come back or at least put his lesson's back up for us. My life story always late and a dollar short.

Raz,

Thanks but let me work this one out first before I short circuit something over here... :)

Sorry Six

Definitely wasn't trying to pigeon hole you as a country only. I wasn't in any way trying to suggest that you were not knowledgeable in the area, just that as a preference, you guys (the instructors) might prefer that a user try to head to the instructors who focus more on a particular area first.

Again, sorry and I should have been more clear on what I was trying to suggest. :o

Edit to add

I think GuitarPsy said it good... Taking the logical approach.

I take it that Sixpicker is J.D. Jarrell ?? Anyway I looked at a few videos today and I think I see where I went wrong on the cords you spoke of. I I also found there and many different ways people are playing this song with different cords and they all sound good. Back to the drawing board for me as I found a couple new notes and ways to pick'em. I also found more of Terry's old post and one had it where I could send him a PM & Email. I done both to see if I can get him to send me his Eagles lessons.
