Left-Handed
Hello everyone, I have a question that I would pretty much appreciate your answers. I play guitar for a few months and I am a left-handed person, yet I play the guitar like every right-handed person does. Will it be harder for me to play better in the future , or it doesnt really matter? I bought a right-handed guitar, should I buy a left-handed guitar now? can someone give me some advice?
Thanks in advance :) (by the way I am loving this site)

Some say it is advantageous for lefties to play right. The more difficult stuff is going to be on your main hand. When purchasing, you have a much greater selection in right handed guitars.
And it can be difficult to sell a left handed guitar. Lately there are some left handed Schecters f/s on my local board for months and have been dropped to ridiculously low prices and still they sit.

...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Thank you so much for your advice, I am more relieved now because my classmates said I was stupid for buying a right-handed guitar. They also said that left-handed guitarists could never be as good as right-handed. I believe it is not true :). by the way, are u left-handed?

Your classmates are the stupid ones :p Jimi Hendrix was left handed. As a matter of fact, he actually bought right handed guitars and turned them upside down so that he could play left handed.

do you feel that you have a harder time learning stuff than other people?

No. I don't see any disadvantage to it.
The left hand is the fingering hand. To me that is the harder job, so it doesn't put me at a disadvantage.
All the training materials (here and everywhere) are set up for the right handed view. So you would have a much harder time learning to do everything backwards from the training materials if you switched to a left handed guitar.
You can safely move on from this topic and just work on learning. In the beginning both hands are totally awkward :)

I think I heard Jon shredding on the Guitarwar site... I think he must be related to Chris Broderick :) Good example then of how lefty on righty can work out well.

Steve Morse is left handed playing righty. Case closed…keep playing like you are and don't worry about it.
(for the record, I'm also left handed playing right handed and don't feel any disadvantages at all)
