Hallo guys.

I´ve recently subscribed to this, by first impression, great site.

I am a danish dude with 25 years on my behind. I´ve played guitar on and off, but never anything serious, the top of my "career" was some guest appearing in a black sabbath band ( i played the rythem :P). Last year i bought a guitar, a Mexican Fender Telecaster, which i adore, and a fender super champ XD for the noize-making. Sadly, because of loads of work with my studies, I never really got into a stable rythem for my exercises. When i was 13, i took one year of Guitar lessons at a professional teacher, and last year i took half a year, but I couldnt keep up because of work and studies. Now, however, im back with a vengance, and i really want to get started playing and progressing with some stable pratice-routines, as my daily scedual allows it now.

After this short introduction, so you guys know where im comming from, i have a question: I cant really wrap my head around where to start, or which things to focus on and which to take more lightly. I´ve been looking at the fundemetal guitar lessons, and so far there is nothing new under the sun as far as what i´ve already learned. But after this its kinda hard to know what to focus on. My personal goal with playing the guitar, is getting a good background for playing, as well as, maybe, in the furture finding a band to play along with. My music-taste is very broad, i like rock, bluse, jazz, funk, world-music, experimental rock and so furth. - So, where should i begin, and what should i mainly focus on as a start ?! - i know the most basicly used achords, but i really lack some of the most basic techniques. What im asking for is just some good focus points for getting a great progression at start.

Hope that kinda tells what my problem/question is, and that any of you guys/gals have some good piece advice.

Welcome to GT fellow Dane! We'll keep it in english, so everybody else will know what's going on....

It sounds like you can skip the guitar fundamentals and go straight to Rock Level 1 or Blues Level 1. Just start from one end and work your way up lesson by lesson. Really take the time to work on the material. There might be some stuff in there that you already know, and in that case just skip it or re-work it.

After you have a basic understanding of blues and/or rock, you can branch out a little more. You mentioned an interest in many different styles of music, but in my experience it's very important to have a basic understanding of rock and blues before you start exploring jazz for example.

Let me know if you have any questions. God fornoejelse!

I had some previous back ground as well, but I made myself go thru all the fundamentals even so. There were some aha moments in there. There is also great info on triads, and chord building. If you have basic chords down and want to progress, this is the kind of stuff you need to know. Some lessons you'll know and just be waiting for the vid to end, but there's probably stuff in there worth waiting for.

Once those are done, select your course of study and begin. Sounds like you might want to go with Rock ;). That's what I did and after completing them I've moved on to the Blues lessons. I've never really been a blues man, but that's what keeps coming out of my fingers! Weird, but I stopped fighting it.

Maybe instead, after the rock courses (or what ever you choose), you could launch into the artist or genre studies.

Just my thoughts. Good luck!
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Hallo Anders.

Actually I stumbled upon some of your lessons earlier, and wondered if you were a dane. Now i got my answer :-)

Sounds like a good lay-out for the next couple of weeks/months practice. I will most definitely come across some new questions which will need answers; but for now, I will dig into these lessons.

Thanks for the advice, and you´ll most likely come across more topics with wierd ass questions from yours truely :-P
