Question. Power chord pinky vs ring fingering
I was wondering what the benefit to fingering a power chord with the index and pinky rather than the index and ring or index ring and pinky. I've always used the ring since it's a natural transition the the full bar but have noticed many players using the pinky. Is this something I should be working towards or is it just a personal preference?

Hi!
I would say it's just personal preference. Whenever I only play a two note power chord (root and fifth) I use my index and pinky. Just feels more comfortable to me, and you get to use your pinky a little more. That sucker usually doesn't get enough practice so it's good to throw it in there in some easy stuff to strengthen it.
However, if I'm adding notes I play the root and fifth with my index and ring finger. Anyway, it's mainly personal preference.

I say it personal preference, Do what ever feels natural in my opinion. But if you see that the way your playing it right now is affecting you, find an alternative right away. But other than that, do what feels natural.

Agreed natural is best, though I always try to use my little finger whenever I can while practicing, keeps the strength up.
