Hey guys my dad used to have a fender strat 40th anniversary and i found it weeeeeeee its a beauty, so i asked my dad what was the problem and after we saw the guitar i found that the fretboard have some like holes for lot of use and the frets as well they have like holes where the string pass there and lost the tune.

so my question here is, it is save to send it to a shop and change the fretbord and frets and calibrate the guitar or its not a good idea?

Whats is the problem if i leave the strat the way it is and just calibrate it?

thanks

Try getting it set-up again. If it still plays bad, you should probably take it to a luthier and have him check if leveling the frets will help, or maybe just refret the whole neck. That's what I would do.

1) Set-up
2) Level Frets
3) Re-Fret

Ivan-

Sweet! What a great find and family treasure.

Guitars that have been extremely well-loved (in other words, played a LOT) do need a fret job from time to time. You may be able to buy some time with a fresh set-up, but if you're serious about putting some miles on this guitar, you might consider going straight to the luthier for a fret job, and get the job done right.

Hi Ivan...

I second taking it to a luthier. Sounds like you need your frets rewired as well as board sanded back to it's original contour.

How would you go about finding a luthier? I don't want to take my guitar (also a Strat) to Guitar Center. I just don't feel like they are professional enough. They seem like an every day retail shop to me now.

Stay away from Guitar Center. Look in the Yellow pages for an independent music shop and if you can't find one, find a place where they give guitar lessons. Both of those places will be able to recommend a good Luthier. Some Independant shops will have an arrangement with a Luthier.

Or worst case scenario - Go to the Fender site and look up the authorized service center in your area - These are local Luthiers who have been approved to work on Fenders.

Or you could go to www.Fenderforum.com and ask for a recommendation on a Luthier in your area - This is the biggest Fender forum on the Net.
