slash notes/chords?

I know I have encountered them in the past and for the life of me I cant remember what it is

a song I am learning goes from a G to then a D/F#
what is the slash again?

hey there - I had the same question a couple weeks ago. If I understood it correctly, It means that it's a D-chord, but with the lowest note in the chord is now a F#.

That being said, I am pretty new and stil have not figured out how to take the chord and revise it myself. I used the chord chart provided on the tab.

Works the same for all slash chords: first note names the chord, the second note names the lowest note in the voicing.

Options for G to D/F#:

I was going off a cover of the song on youtube and I can hear what he was doing and copied that ...but I didnt know what I was actually doing...
but I have to look into it more because as we all know...a cover is a cover and who is to say the guy was playing it right....could have been his interpretation which you see a lottttttt of on youtube...sounded good though and I was able to play along with it....
have to preactice the timing though
