Stock acoustic strings
Hi all! I have been learning on an electric and I got a gift certificate for Christmas, so I'm going to buy an acoustic. My question is what gauge usually comes on acoustics? I want to buy extras, but don't want to deal with changing the setup right off the bat.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there-
Congrats on your new guitar! If you are moving from electric to acoustic, I'd recommend starting out with light gauge strings on the acoustic. You can ask at the music store to find out what gauge strings are already on the guitar you decide to buy. If they're not light gauge, you might be able to talk them into putting a set on for you as you buy the guitar.
Depending on how your fingers do, and what styles of acoustic music you end up going for, you may make adjustments in the string gauge in the future.
Have fun and keep us posted!
Best wishes, Lisa

Thanks for the reply! A relative gave me a gift certificate to an online music store, so I kinda have to go that way. Not knowing a lot about acoustics, I didn't know if they usually came with light strings or mediums. I was looking at a Washburn, if that helps. I was hoping to go with light gauge strings, but didn't want to mess anything up already. Again, thanks for the help!

I've always been told the stock strings are usually junk. After seeing what came on my brothers fender strat acoustics guitar it made my strings off my sg-400 electric look amazing.
I bought new strings cause they said wont you get good, you will sooner than later break one. And the sound quality gets alot better too. I will be buying acoustics after my wedding( ), and i think for most the styles that are played on it i preferred the thicker strings.
I've picked up about 5 of them so i can tell the differences...but go to a music store and just browse so when you look online you have better idea.

Thanks for all the advice! When I change strings, is it ok to take all of them off just long enough to give the fret board a good cleaning, or should they always be done one at a time? I know the fret board shouldn't need it yet, but for the future....
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

lol they can all be off at the same time, wont hurt anything. Clean it up good and take your time putting the strings back on.

Good deal, thanks! I have read both, some say NEVER take them all off, but I wanted to be sure. I like some things warped, but not my guitar. :p
Thanks again!
