Hey guys.
Here is my take. I recorded it last night and fortunately had some free time today to do the mixing job and upload it to my page.

For some strange reason, this tune makes me think of a person driving a car on the freeway; so, I title it:
Driving adventures.

Great take man! Really enjoyed listening to it...you really found your stride from the bend at around 1:58 to the end. Is that a reverse bend you're doing or a technique with the whammy bar? Really liked the way you ended it.

Thanks for taking the time to play over my track...ive kind of lost my objectivity since ive played it so many times in my own way...refreshing to hear a different perspective.

Excellent track! Thanks! I'd be keen on a higher bitrate if you can, my email address should be in my profile, pm if not, many thanks.

While you're at it, raise the level on the cowbell ( gotta love cowbells :D )!
Can you play "Far Far Away?"

Yes - how far would you like?

Stickied.. check your private messages for my email address.

I added the link to the external file that you can download directly from my web server if you want a higher quality copy of the backing. The link is in the original post by mpaq.

Just had a bit of fun rocking with this. This is the 'first go' take, so it aint pretty or inventive.

WrigglerUk - Mpackin'

Just listened to Equator's take while mine uploaded... Damn, that was a clever take, very inventive and not at all what I thought of when listening to the BT.
Nice one, son, as the say round these parts.

Thanks WrigglerUk for listening and commenting on my take.

I have nothing but praises on your playing; everything is well done.

My only constructive criticism is not on your playing but on the production.
You have a theme that sounds good but when the next part comes in, the last note of the theme keeps ringing. You could fade out the theme take or Cross fade the tracks so they blend together.
Also, the theme track sounds a little louder compared to the other parts. Bring the level down (about -1.00) and see how you like it.

Really cool take my friend. :)

Thanks for the very rapid feedback! I did throw it together very quickly just using Audacity, I've made the changes you kindly suggested, it does sound way better except you can now hear the snarl-ups when I picked too aggressively...

:o

The chorus line is still a little too loud, but backing it off more loses it against the chords. Ah, well, it'll have to do...
Cheers for listening, and to Mpaq for the song.

mpaq- really good; straight ahead rock, which is more my thing.

I'm still have a helluva time getting the tones I want using a Stealthplug and Amplitude. Anyone know how I can get the BT louder? I have the volume all the way up, but the BT is still buried in the background. If I bring the input level down, then the volume of my guitar is way down as well. I'm still using Audacity, so, as most of you know, what you hear is what is recorded. So I need to bring the BT up to match the volume of my guitar. Any ideas? My problems with effects is another story...

Good job mpaq! I'd really like to lay something down, but can't do it unless I can hear it while I'm playing!

Hrmm.. I dunno.. get a decent recording app maybe, then you can fiddle around with the mix a lot more than with Audacity which is pretty basic. You really can't go wrong with Reaper. It's not only free for non-commercial use but the download is about 3.4mb, which is tiny when you think about most apps these days.. I mean.. that is half of the download size for Firefox 3...

Silimtao - how exactly are you recording...? I assume you are running Audacity and amplitube together, and importing the BT into Audacity ( using project -> import audio ). If so you can raise the gain on the BT separately from amplitube.

You aren't importing the BT into amplitube and then trying to record the output of that, are you...? That doesn't work well if I recall.

And you are using ASIO drivers for the stealthplug?

My setup is a little different, but should behave similarly. I use a Toneport feeding Gearbox software ( same thing as amplitube ). Load the BT into Audacity, set Audacity to record the Gearbox output & go.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

As far as tone goes, I tried Amplitube and hated it. Then again, I was also disappointed with Gearbox until I found some presets I liked from other users - the ones in the box suck. Maybe search the forums for user presets for Amplitube?

First take is never my best because I always think of new things to do halfway through and then I mess it up.. it's just the way my brain works.. anyway.. here is the messy first take for this month's solo. I've got the main theme down but now I just need to work on the improv stuff..

Light - I think your improv skills are better than you think, for me it took off at the 2nd verse, you seemed to let go a bit more, & you could have carried it into the outro.

The tone was nice too - clean but the sustain was good. Just back the level down a bit, especially where the BT goes quieter. I found myself straining to hear the backing to relate the lead to. I detected a bit of an intonation thing, sounded like the G string is a little out, could be my cloth ears though!

There's a good take there, hope you finish & share, look forward to listening.

I agree with Wriggler, you never give yourself enough credit Light! My only crit for you is to go a bit easier on the reverb but i always appreciate your melodic playing style.

Really like your take as well Wriggler - nice harmonizing of the two guitars , they play off each other well - one follows the theme and the one panned to the right adds more of a rock kick to it.

Hey guys I have not been around in awhile due to other obligations. I just checked out the backing track and it sounds pretty cool. I would like to try and submit something by tomorrow afternoon. Hope that's Ok. I have not listened to anybody's submissions yet. After I get my entry done I am looking forward to checking out the other submissions. :)
